Round 2 of the Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC) Miata Spec Series proved to be as exciting as ever as familiar names in the local racing scene continue to dominate last weekend’s race.
Mazda Philippines announced that rules were changed starting the round held last August 27, starting with the formation of three categories: the GT Radial Novice Class, the Rota Masters Class, and the Shell Pro Class. The creation of the aforementioned divisions, according to the Japanese automaker’s local arm, “reflect the diversity of the racing talent present and is also aimed at nurturing and developing “up-and-coming racing talents to hone their talents in succeeding years.”
Amid the tweaks to the classifications, Allan Uy (who is on board the Mazda MX-5 racecar number 99) continues to dominate the MSCC Spec Series by taking the overall win in Races 3 and 4.
Participating in the Shell Pro Class, Uy crossed the checkered flag with a 1.192-second margin over Tyson Sy in Car No. 05. Angie King in Car No. 12 joined the two at the podium in third place.
Uy was the race leader once again in Race 4 with a 4.317-second gap to King. Paul Henderson Perez replaced Sy at the podium by finishing the race in third spot.
For the GT Radial Novice Class, Jaime Miguel Almario took victory in Race 3 with Dino Imperial in second and Kirk Baltazar in third. In Race 4, it was Javier Toledo who was at the top podium, followed by Jaime Miguel Almario and Paul Perez.
Lastly, Windy Imperial took home the first-place trophy for the Rota Masters Class’ Race 3 and 4 while Lito Ignacio took home the second-place in Race 4.
Further, Mazda Philippines said that as part of the event, Pilipinas Shell VIPs and guests were treated to a taxi ride in the MSCC Miata Spec Series cars by the racers.
All the 17 Mazda MX-5 roadsters that competed in the MSCC Miata Spec Series are equipped with a showroom stock 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine paired to a six-speed Skyactiv manual transmission.
Other features found in the race cars are Cusco sports coil overs, chassis braces and racing roll cages; custom stainless steel exhaust system developed by Drift Xaust; Sparco competition steering wheels, racing seats, harnesses, and safety nets; as well as GT Radial Champiro SX2 tires mounted on custom 17-inch Rota Strike wheels.
Sponsored by Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, GT Radial tires, and Rota Wheels, the Rounds 3 and 4 of the MSCC Miata Spec Series are on October 29 (Race 5 and 6) and November 26 (Race 7 and 8), respectively. All races will be held at the Clark International Speedway.
