According to Piaggio, the technical documentation for the project and the contracts is expected to be completed next year.A preliminary agreement was signed by Piaggio’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Roberto Colaninno and Foton’s Vice General Manager Wang Shuhai.
It’s not their first dance together as both consortiums have partnered together in 2021 to release the Porter NP6, an LCV powered by a combination of fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or fuel and liquefied natural gas (LNG)/compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system.
The 1.5-liter powerplant makes as much as 104 horsepower (hp).
Piaggio made no mention of how the new LCV would look like — or what system would power it — but we assume it would be something like the abovementioned Porter NP6.
According to Piagio, the agreement consolidates the partnership set up by the two groups in September 2017 for the joint development of innovative solutions for the light commercial vehicles market.
Over the coming months, a team of representatives from the two groups will work on the development and approval of a production and commercial plan and on the contractual documents. The technical documentation for the project and the contracts is expected to be completed next year.
