The next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor was released in the country not too long ago with much fanfare.
Fans who visited the launch of the souped-up pickup truck at this year’s Ford Island Conquest witnessed the next-generation Ranger Raptor display not only its good looks but also its capabilities of playing in unpaved terrain filled with dirt and mud.
But how does the next-gen Ford Ranger Raptor compare to its sibling, the next-generation Ranger Wildtrak? Join us in this pickup truck comparo to find out.
The next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor measures 5,381 millimeters (mm) long, 2,028mm wide, and 1,922mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 3,270mm and a ground clearance of 272mm.
As for the next-generation Ford Ranger Wildtrak, it has an overall length of 5,370mm, an overall width of 1,918mm, and an overall height of 1,884mm. The truck has a wheelbase of 3,270mm and a minimum ground clearance of 235mm.
From the outside, the next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor clearly has the upper hand when it comes to exterior appointments. Contributing to its larger dimensions are a host of features that further enhances the looks of the next-gen Ranger nameplate.
Things like bold F-O-R-D lettering on the grille, large wheel arches, and exhaust vents on the hood emphasize the next-gen Ford Ranger Raptor’s status in the variant hierarchy.
Additionally, it also wears model-specific “Raptor” badges that can be found on its huge step board, its tailgate, and (decals) on the side of the truck bed. Further, it rides on a set of 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped with BF Goodrich KO2 high-performance all-terrain tires.
The next-generation Ford Ranger Wildtrak, on the other hand, offers several variant-specific exterior features of its own like a front grille with unique Wildtrak paint accent and a Wildtrak badge on its “easy-lift” tailgate.
Aside from that, the next-generation Ford Ranger Wildtrak basically lays the groundwork for the next-generation Ranger Raptor exterior-wise. On that note, it comes with a pair of Matrix LED headlamps with C-clamp LED daytime running lamps, LED front fog lamps, taillamps, and a high-mount stop lamp.
Overall, the next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor comes in as a better packaged pickup truck compared to the next-gen Ranger Wildtrak. That said, we give this round to the next-generation Ranger Raptor.
Both vehicles sing the same tune when it comes to their respective cabins. The next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor offers leather-wrapped front seats similar to those seen inside jet fighter planes. This gives the driver and the front passenger aggressive-looking seats with enough bolstering to keep them snugly in place when passing through tough terrains.
It also comes with a steering wheel finished in leather and a center console with a matt finish. Tech-wise, the next-gen Ford Ranger Raptor comes with a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch colored portrait touchscreen infotainment system.
Trim-specific features come in the form of “Raptor” badging on the steering wheel and on the seats as well as “Ford Performance” logos on the tread plate and on the infotainment system.
For the next-generation Ford Ranger Wildtrak, it offers seats that are wrapped in a combination of genuine and synthetic leather. It also has a leather steering wheel and a center console with a similar matte finish.
Past the abovementioned steering wheel is an eight-inch digital instrument cluster accompanied by a 12-inch portrait-style infotainment system.
Wildtrak badges can be found on the seats and on the dashboard of the pickup truck’s interior.
Thanks to its jet fighter-inspired seats, larger instrument cluster, and aggressive-looking “Raptor” badges, we’re giving this round to the next-gen Ford Ranger Raptor.
Powering the next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor is a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel mill mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with e-Shifter. This setup, Ford said, makes around 200 horsepower and 500 Newton-meters of torque.
Likewise, the next-gen Ford Ranger Wildtrak uses the same powertrain setup, which allows it to produce the same figures, performance-wise.
That said, we will call this round a tie.
In terms of safety, the next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor comes with a host of features like airbags, seatbelts, an anti-lock braking system with an electronic brake booster, hill launch assist and rollover mitigation, hill descent control, and a volumetric security alarm system.
Its advanced driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function, autonomous emergency braking, pre-collision assist, dynamic brake support, distance alert, lane departure warning and lane keeping aid, evasive steer assist, a blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert and braking, a 360-degree camera, and active park assist, to name a few.
Meanwhile, the next-gen Ford Ranger Wildtrak offers a list of similarly-robust safety features which include an electronic parking brake, a security alarm system, an immobilizer, and ISOFIX tethers.
Overall, both pickup trucks are neck and neck in this round. So, we’re going to call it a tie.

With more rounds won over its rival, the winner of this pickup truck comparo is the next-gen Ford Ranger Raptor. Not only does it look good and more aggressive but it also have features that have been developed specifically to allow the truck to conquer almost all terrain thrown in front of it.
Things like its 2.5-inch Fox shocks, its front performance seats, and the metal underbody protection fitted on the truck makes it a better choice for those driving on paved roads on the weekdays and are looking to conquer the rough and rugged roadways during the weekends.
Nevertheless, the next-generation Ford Ranger Wildtrak still makes for a great option for those who are in the market for a daily driver that’s a cut above the rest. Its more affordable sticker price makes it an appealing choice for car buyers who really don’t need the bells and whistles offered by the next-generation Ranger Raptor.
