The Porsche 911 Turbo S was recently hailed as this year’s World Performance Car, claiming Porsche's seventh World Performance Car title and the eighth victory overall in the World Car Awards.

From a short list of nine performance cars chosen by a distinguished panel of 93 journalists coming from 28 countries, the 992-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S clinched this year’s best performance model.

In order to qualify for the World Performance Car award, a model with a minimum of 2,000 units produced must be performance-focused in terms of character, and is sold in at least two major markets on at least two continents between May 1, 2020 and May 1, 2021.

Porsche AG Vice President for the 911 and 718 Model Lines Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser expressed gratitude over the recognition that they have received.

“We could not be more excited to accept this award. The 911 Turbo S is the peak of performance and luxury from Porsche, a fact this recognition underscores. With the new-generation 992, we continue to push the boundaries of performance,” the Porsche AG executive was quoted as saying.

Powering the 992-generation 911 Turbo S—which Porsche Philippines debuted last year—is a six-cylinder, 3.745ccm boxer engine producing 640hp and 800Nm of torque—70hp and 50Nm more than previous engine's output. This is paired to an eight-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission specifically made to the Turbo models. This 911 registers a zero-to-100kph time of 2.7 seconds, 0.2 seconds quicker than before. Its maximum speed of remains unchanged at 330kph.

The 911 Turbo S sports an expanded body, 45 millimeters wider above the front axle (at 1,840 millimeters) and 20 millimeters more above the rear axle (at 1,900 millimeters). The adjustment also increases track by 42 millimeters in front and 10 millimeters at the back.

This version of 911 Turbo S wears mixed-size tires (the front wheels have 20-inch  255/35 tires, while the rear wheels are wrapped in 21-inch 315/30s)—a first in the 911 Turbo S.

Further, Porsche is also eyeing to bag another World Car Awards crown next year through the fully electric Taycan four-door sports car. The 2022 season of the World Car Awards will debut the World Electric Vehicle of the Year award.

Evaluations for the 2022 World Car Awards will officially begin on August 19 at the New York International Auto Show. The latest accolade is meant to recognize, support, and celebrate the ongoing global transition to electrically powered vehicles and the efforts of automakers in developing these climate-conscious vehicles.

Also marketed in the country, the 2021 Taycan has a permanent magnet synchronous motor mounted on the rear axle, which evokes the legendary 911’s classic rear-engine/rear-drive layout.

Aside from that, the new Taycan sits on 20-inch Taycan Turbo Aero wheels and black anodized brake calipers with six-piston brakes in front and four-piston brakes at the rear.

Moreover, the 2021 Porsche Taycan front apron, side sills and rear diffuser are finished in black.
