Porsche has launched the new Macan in the Philippines, which is engineered to deliver increased performance, a sharper design and a new operating concept.
Launched in 2014, the Macan badge has already sold more than 600,000 units to date. Last year, the Stuttgart-headquartered automaker celebrated a record year after delivering 301,915 vehicles around the world — 88,362 of which (nearly 30 percent of the overall brand sales) are Macan units.
“In the new Macan, the highly sought-after model has become better than ever,” PGA Cars, the brand’s local distributor, said in a statement.
The distinct Porsche DNA has been retained in the new Macan — evident on the sloping sports car roof line, broad-shouldered rear and seamless taillight strip — but has made some specific upgrades in terms of visuals.
Emphasizing the new Porsche Macan’s width is the redesigned nose with an inlay in body color — along with the new LED headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS).
The sideblades now have a three-dimensional surface structure and are painted in Lava Black as standard.
The rear section has been redesigned to accommodate a black diffuser that extends upward more prominently to achieve an even sportier look. The LED taillight strip with integrated four-point brake lights was retained in the vehicle to show the famous Porsche design cue.
The latest iteration of the sport utility vehicle (SUV) is fitted with Sportdesign exterior mirrors with V-shaped bases, 19-inch wheels, and additional 3D trim in front and at the rear.
Inside the cabin, the new Porsche Macan is equipped with centrally-positioned rev counter (derived from Porsche’s legendary 911) and the analog clock in the middle of the dashboard.
Aside from that, the SUV enjoys a redesigned center console. Instead of buttons, its operating concept now utilizes touch controls “and continues to offer many online functions and services as standard.” Controls and access to the aforementioned functions can also be done via the 10.9-inch full high-definition touch display of the Porsche Communication Management.
Providing driver control on the new Porsche Macan are the multifunction sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles, as well as shorter gear selector lever sitting at the middle of the control module.
Also, the new Porsche Macan gets a 14-way electronically-adjusted seats to complement the luxurious accommodations.
Powering the new Porsche Macan is a 2.0-liter inline-four turbocharged engine that can dish out 265 horses from 5,000rpm to 6,000rpm, and 400Nm of torque from 1,800rpm up to 4,500rpm. It is mated to a seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission. The aforementioned powertrain is fuel efficient, thanks to its a high-pressure injection system and the engine’s low weight that reduces load over the front axle.
Complementing the new Macan’s power mill capabilities are the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) active all-wheel drive system, which has an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch and the Porsche Stability Management system.
The Sport Chrono package with Mode Switch extends the new Porsche Macan’s set-up options for its chassis, engine and transmission. The newly-designed Mode Switch with Sport Response button on the steering wheel can be used to choose between four driving modes: Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual.
It also features a Launch Control function enables optimum acceleration from a standing start, while the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) improves driving dynamics and stability. Assisting in the vehicle’s steering behavior are the variable distribution of engine torque to the rear wheels, and the electronically controlled rear differential lock.
“Like every Porsche, the New Macan is capable of pushing limits even further and delivering a thrilling drive always, making it the sports car of SUVs,” the company concluded.
