Porsche will launch the first-ever 911 with a hybrid powertrain within the month.
Per the Stuttgart-headquartered automaker, the vehicle — which shall be unveiled on May 28 — is ready for series production following the completion of its development and testing program.
“For the first time in our icon’s 61-year history, we are installing a hybrid drive system in a roadgoing 911. This innovative performance hybrid makes the 911 even more dynamic,” Vice President Model Line 911 and 718 Frank Moser was quoted as saying.
“We left nothing to chance during development and tested the new 911 under all sorts of conditions all over the world. From the freezing cold to scorching heat, as was the case during the final stages of testing in Dubai. Whether at a high drivetrain load in the demanding conditions of mountain passes or in the stop-and-go traffic of an urban environment, the new 911 has mastered even the most difficult challenges with aplomb. All in all, our engineers and test drivers clocked up more than five million kilometers of development driving,” the executive added.
The hybrid engine-equipped sports card — driven by Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister — was able to complete a lap at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in in 7:16.934 minutes – 8.7 seconds faster compared to its predecessor. According to Porsche, the model used in the circuit is equipped with standard road tires and an aero kit with a fixed rear wing that has been available as an option for several model generations.
“The new 911 has become considerably faster on the track,” Bergmeister shared.
“We have more grip, significantly more power, and the spontaneous response of the performance hybrid is a great advantage.”
Just recently, PGA Cars launched the Porsche 911 Dakar to the local market, which serves as tribute to the marque’s victory in the 1984 Paris-Dakar rally.
In terms of electrification, the company also brought to the country the Cayenne E-Hybrid late last year, which furthered the brand’s sustainable mobility thrust locally (alongside the all-electric Taycan). The said sport utility vehicle has a 3.0-liter V6 turbo engine mated to an electric motor and integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission.
