Porsche shall add an electric version of the Cayenne soon.
Such an announcement was made by Porsche AG Chief Executive Officer Oliver Blume after saying that the fourth-generation model “will set standards in the segment as an electric sport utility vehicle (SUV)” by the middle of the decade.
The said move is part of the Stuttgart-headquartered brand’s plans to boost electrified mobility.
“Our product strategy could enable us to deliver more than 80 percent of our new cars fully electrified in 2030 – depending on the demand of our customers and the development of electromobility in the regions of the world,” Blume noted.
Porsche also said that the Cayenne will still have internal combustion and hybrid trims, giving clients options on their preferred powertrain.
Further, Porsche said that the third-generation Cayenne will be further upgraded and offered alongside the fourth, all-electric generation.
The currently-available option will be further developed with major technological investment in the future — focusing on the engine (particularly on improving the efficiency of the V8 developed by Porsche and built at the Zuffenhausen engine plant), among others. Extensive technical measures will ensure that the twin-turbo engine is ready to comply with future legislative requirements.
Per Vice President for the Cayenne Product Line Michael Schätzle, the model’s first camouflaged all-electric prototypes are currently undergoing real-world tests following the series of digital development and tests — including the first test drives in the Development Center in Weissach.
The newly-released examples shall cover several million test kilometers globally under extreme climatic and topographical conditions.
“In this way, we ensure the durability and reliability of the hardware, the software and all the car’s functions in accordance with our high-quality standards,” Schätzle added.
Further, Porsche AG Member of the Executive Board for Research and Development Michael Steiner said that the all-electric luxury SUV is based on a comprehensive extensive development of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with 800-volt architecture,
“The flexibility of the PPE architecture allows us to integrate the latest technology in the fields of high-voltage systems, powertrain and chassis. We are going to utilize the potential of electrification to take the Cayenne to a completely new level in a number of ways – for instance, in driving performance,” he said.
Further, Porsche is also aiming to develop high-capacity and stable charging, high efficiency, and a high level of comfort for everyday usability.
