KEY TAKEAWAYS
What is the overall average problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) of new energy vehicles (NEV) released this year?
Per JD Power, the overall PP100 average of NEVs released this year is 173 PP100, which translates to an increase of 21 PP100 from 2022.What are some of the most common problems found on new NEV models?
Per the study, the most common problems found on new NEV models are interior smell and excessive road noise.According to the American data analytics, software, and consumer intelligence company, the overall average quality of NEVs this year is 173 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), which translates to an increase of 21 PP100 from 2022. The said result is based on the J.D. Power 2023 China New Energy Vehicle Initial Quality Study (NEV-IQS).
Per the J.D. Power 2023 China NEV-IQS, some of the issues found on new NEV models are interior smell and excessive road noise. Additionally, the study found that the midsize sport utility vehicle segment is the most competitive category in the NEV market.
Among the tested models of both new and carryover models came from brands such as Dongfeng, BYD, and Changan.
“The competition in the NEV market is heating up, with various automakers constantly launching new models and improving the product matrix to seize market share. The quality of new models is lower than that of carryover models and a shorter R and D (research and development) period and adaptation of complex technological configurations are contributing to this decline. Automakers need to pay more attention to user experience and quality management as they accelerate the launching of new models,” J.D. Power China Auto Product Practice General Manager Elvis Yang stated.
