Red Bull Boss’s Proud Boast: Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro Can Beat Nurburgring Record
Just last Friday, June 29, Porsche managed to do the impossible--shatter the Nurburgring Nordschieilfe record that many believed would never be broken. But before Porsche could let the prestigious accomplishment sink in, Christian Horner, Principal of the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team, is boldly claiming that the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro, a collaboration between Red Bull and title sponsor Aston Martin, could beat the overall record set by Porsche when it's released.
Asked whether the upcoming hypercar could beat the Porsche 919 Hybrid's recent feat, Horner had this to say: "I'm not sure a Formula 1 car could actually do it, but I think that the Valkyrie--certainly the track version of the Valkyrie--could be a contender."
"It's a few years off because the car’s still on the drawing board, but I'd be surprised if that car didn't have the potential to do that," he added.
Under the guidance of F1 design specialist Adrian Newey, the Aston Martin Valkyrie is the British carmaker's first hypercar. With input from Aston Martin, Red Bull Racing Technology, and automotive engineering company Cosworth, the track-version of the Valkyrie currently in development is certainly getting plenty of endorsement mileage with Horner's claim.
That said, this isn't the first time somebody bragged about what the Valkyrie AMR Pro could do once it rolls off the production line. When Aston Martin announced the model late last year, Aston Martin President and CEO Andy Palmer promised that it will deliver F1-level performance.
The Valkyrie AMR Pro is scheduled to debut in 2020. All cars already have owners.
