Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) announced that the upgraded version of the Hilux GR-S is already available in the local market.
The new pick-up truck's Gazoo-fied version is offered with aesthetic updates and improved output in terms of performance. Its official retail started yesterday.
According to TMP, the 2.8-liter four-cylinder, 16-valve double overhead cam turbodiesel mill in the new Toyota Hilux GR-S can deliver up to 224 horsepower (an increase of 24 horses compared to the previous version's churn). TMP explained to Carmudi Philippines increase in power (despite having the same engine) can be attributed to the adjustments in the pick-up truck’s electronic control unit.
The said powertrain is matched to a six-speed automatic gearbox with part-time four-wheel drive.
In addition, the new Toyota Hilux GR-S is equipped with GR front and rear disc brakes with GR brake calipers, as well as monotube shock absorbers.
Further, the new Toyota Hilux GR-S sports a beefier look — taking cues from the Dakar-winning GR Hilux. The vehicle grew wider by 120 millimeters and taller by 65 millimeters compared to the previous iteration. Its increase in size could be due to its wide-tread body, matte black GR-S overfenders, 17-inch alloy GR design wheels that are wrapped in 265/65 all-terrain tires.
Also, its front fascia has been updated, as seen in the new grille design surrounded by a gloss black trim and silver embellishment in the bumper lower area. Additional gloss black trimmings are also found on the rear portion of the vehicle — complementing the fashion bar with provisions for a bed cover.
Numerous GR-S logo are tailored within the cabin of the new Hilux GR-S (on the steering wheel and headrests of the suede and leather seats). Adding to its sporty appeal are the red seatbelts and leather door trims with technical mesh.
Moreover, the new Toyota Hilux GR-S also comes with a wireless charger as well as a nine-inch display audio system that has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities. Other convenience features include smart entry and push-start system.
Additionally, the vehicle also has a host of safety technologies such as blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, panoramic view monitor, anti-lock braking system, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist control, and downhill assist control.
