The project had a funding of P90 million from the 2021 General Appropriations Act.In a statement, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said that the farm-to-market road upgrade project, which costs P90 million, has upgraded the Cabantohan-Lemery Road from gravel into two-lane concrete with stone masonry and grouted riprap.
Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan, citing the report from DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno, said that the concreted road will provide a more convenient route for farmers in the delivery of products to the market at lesser travel time and hauling cost.
Aside from that, the road improvement project is expected to provide commuters and motorists better access to schools, health facilities, public and commercial establishments, and other basic government services.
“Local communities, particularly those in remote areas, can now experience an easier and safer travel with the upgraded road instead of the muddy and dangerous gravel road which was prone to mudslide and landslide during heavy rains,” Bueno said.
The program was implemented under the DPWH Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office through the 2021 General Appropriations Act.
