A thorough examination of Daihatsu-made Toyota cars is definitely in order as both brands have admitted that the Raize Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) was improperly certified in the UN-R135 test.
The latest test scandal was announced by both Toyota and Daihatsu following the rigged test result with the Yaris Ativ (more known as the Vios in the Philippines).
In a statement, both Toyota and Daihatsu said that the Raize HEV — which was supplied by the latter on original equipment manufacturer basis — was improperly certified in the safety test wherein a utility pole apparatus is impacted on the side of the vehicle.
The issue was discovered during an internal inspection of Daihatsu's certification operations in response to the earlier test scandal. Sales of the Raize HEV were immediately suspended, the two Japanese automakers announced.
“We will work with Daihatsu to carefully address this matter while listening to the voices of those on the front lines. We will also continue to report on the details as soon as they become available,” Toyota said in a press release.
Both brands issued their respective apologies for the inconvenience and concern that the situation caused.
Aside from the Toyota Raize HEV, the same test on Daihatsu Rocky was found out to be fraudulent as well.
As of late last week (May 19), a total of 56,111 Raize HEV units were delivered around the world since sales began in November 2021. Meanwhile, Daihatsu has sold 22,329 examples of the Rocky HEV globally for the same period.
