SAIC Motor PH shocks local EV arena with MG4, Marvel R
MANILA: SAIC Motor Philippines (SMP) has officially fired its opening salvo to mark its entry in the local electric vehicle (EV) arena with the launching of the MG4 and Marvel R.

“With the launch of the Marvel R and MG4, our goal is for MG Philippines to truly kickstart the everyday electric revolution for Filipino motorists by providing safe, modern, and truly attainable EVs that can be owned and maintained with ease,” he said.
MG Marvel R
An electric sport utility vehicle, the MG Marvel R exudes a futuristic appeal.
On the outside, the crossover’s front fascia wears linear elements in the form LED daytime running lamps, headlights, and fog lamps.
To its side are flowing body lines and modern-looking chrome door handles. The vehicle sits on double five-spoke alloy wheels.
Inside, the MG Marvel R is tailored with Nappa leather seats that has heating and cooling functions, soft touch materials for the dashboard and door panels, as well as adaptive air-conditioning system.
In addition, it also has a 12.3-inch digital cluster, wireless charging pad, alongside the 19.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ready) matched to an eight-speaker sound setup and 64-color ambient lighting system.
Further, MG Philippines claimed that the newly-launched SUV offers excellent cabin acoustics, boasting that over 95 percent of the interior is covered by soundproof materials.
One of its notable technologies is its voice-activated command system that can operate basic functions such as operating the air-conditioning system, sunroof, windows, and radio, among others.
Powering the MG Marvel R is a two-gear electric drive System fitted to the vehicle’s rear axle that can deliver 183 horsepower (hp) and 410 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. The mill allows the SUV to accelerate 0-100 kilometers per hour (kph) in less than eight seconds (7.9) and reach speeds of up to 200 kph. A fully-charged MG Marvel R (which can be juiced up from 5-80 percent in 43 minutes using a Type-2 DC charger) can cover up 402 kilometers (km).
Its host passive and active safety system is comprised of blind spot detection, lane keeping assist, tire pressure monitoring, intelligent speed alert, pedestrian warning, traction control, hill hold control, cornering brake control, and autonomous emergency brake.
Retailed in a sole trim, the MG Marvel R is priced at P2,588,888.
MG4 EV
On the other hand, the MG4 EV entices customers with its more playful yet functional persona.
It sports a unique-looking front fascia (resembling to Spider-man’s mask), a sloping roof with dual wing spoiler, and a rear light set highlighted by Cygnus cross-shaped accent lights with a full LED taillight assembly.
For its cabin, the MG4 is outfitted with a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen that is also Android Auto and Apple Carplay-ready, a seven-inch LCD cluster gauge, and a wireless charging dock.
Furthermore, the rear-wheel-drive MG4’s electric motor can dish out 200 horses and 250 Nm of pulling power. The powertrain setup lets the car reach 100kph from standstill in 7.1 seconds and hit peak of 161 kph.
The battery of the MG 4 gives it a range of up to 435 km when fully juiced up and can be topped up from 10-80 percent in as fast as 26 minutes using a Type-2 DC charger.

The two newest EV nameplates are packaged with an eight-year/160,000 km EV battery warranty, and a five-year/100,000 km vehicle warranty.
Per Jiang, the addition purely-electrified models “shall open the door to even bigger things to come, in time for the brand’s 100th-year anniversary in 2024.
Relatively, he added that MG Philippines release no less than eight all-new MG models by 2025.
