SMC prepares for Skyway Stage 3 official opening
The recently soft-opened Skyway 3 project has been temporarily closed to make sure it is ready for the official opening slated next week.
Closed since yesterday (January 6, 2021 10PM) until 4AM today (January 7), SMC said that they have conducted additional work prior to its official opening on January 14. To be more specific, the additional road works include installation of streetlights and other construction activities.
When officially opened, SMC will formally open all seven lanes from Buendia, Makati to NLEX on January 14.
Last December 29, SMC opened the said stretch to be utilized for one month for free.
For his part, SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang expressed gratitude over the positive feedback that they are receiving from the public after using the 18-kilometer elevated expressway.
The longest in the country, the SMC claimed that travel time between Makati to NLEX now only takes about 20 minutes, while travel between Alabang and NLEX is only 30 minutes.
“We’re happy that the Skyway 3 is helping ease travel and will efficiently reduce the volume of traffic along EDSA as we envisioned it. There’s still some finishing work on the main north-to-south stretch that we are completing, but come January 14, motorists can expect an even better experience at Skyway 3,” Ang said.
Ang also noted that motorists must follow the speed limit impose to ensure road safety. “As they enjoy toll-free travel at Skyway 3, may we also remind motorists to be mindful of the speed limit and practice usual road courtesy with fellow motorists,” he said.
