Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has recently unveiled the 2022 Camry that is only available with a hybrid power mill: a 2.5-liter 16-valve, four-cylinder, in-line engine partnered with a hybrid powertrain and EV mode to be more precise.
This latest offering from the leading automotive brand dropped the full petrol-powered engine in the process but expanded the brand’s hybrid electric vehicle offerings further to four — joining the company of the Prius, Corolla Altis Hybrid, and the Corolla Cross Hybrid.
But why should there be a need to bring more if they already have three?
In an interview, TMP Assistant Vice President for PR and Communications Elvin Luciano said that the introduction of another HEV model in their lineup is essential to the company’s move to further push for electric vehicle adoption locally.
“This is part of the overall strategy to further push the adoption of HEVs in the country. We see the target market of the Camry as informed trailblazers and influencers in their respective circles - and with a deep understanding and commitment to sustainability and societal responsibility,” Luciano told Carmudi Philippines.
“Transforming the Camry to a pure HEV line gives the customers the best of both worlds - the same power and prestige of the car, with added benefits of a future-ready electrified car. It’s a win-win for these customers and having them as HEV advocates will surely make a significant mark,” he added.
But the engine of the all-new Toyota Camry Hybrid is not just about sustainability nor elegance; it is about performance too as the sophisticated powertrain can deliver as much as 175hp and 221Nm of pulling power.
TMP President Atushiro Okamoto said during the launch that the vehicle is a “favorite among customers worldwide” that is highly-appreciated for its “powerful elegance that comes with quality, durability, and reliability.”
“We have redefined greatness with this executive sedan. This is leadership that remains to be responsible,” he noted.
In terms of sales, the Camry nameplate remained to be a segment leader for numerous years, taking a 71-percent share last year.
Available in Platinum White Pearl Mica, Metal Stream Metallic and Attitude Black Mica, the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid is priced P2.335 million to P2.35 million (depending on the body color chosen). Reservations for the model, TMP shared, started simultaneously with the online launching.
