GAC Motor Philippines recently introduced the newest variant of the GS8 sport utility vehicle (SUV) — pegged as the nameplate's go-anywhere version.
But what differences does the new variant have compared to the existing trims of the Astara-led brand’s full-sized SUV segment entry? Stick with us because that’s what we’re about to share on this piece.
The new GAC GS8 4x4 is equipped with a 4x4 drivetrain. That said, it comes with new drive modes, which you can’t find on the 4x2 model.
According to the local arm of the carmaker, the said modes are Sand, Mud, and Snow, which adds to the existing drive modes offered by the 4x2 version, which are Eco, Comfort, and Sport.
Further, the new GAC GS8 also gets an upgraded sound system in the form of 10 Alpine-branded speakers.
Lastly, the GAC GS8 4x4 has a ventilated front central armrest box.
While the 4x4 version has significant mechanical differences over its 4x2 counterpart, the former shows very little variation from the latter in terms of exterior and interior appointments.
Both trims get a larger-than-life Wing Chrome grille as well as LED lights at the front and at the rear. Also notable are its huge 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in 255/50 tires.
Chrome appointments that give the SUV a luxurious touch can be found on its door panels as well as on its rear diffuser.
Inside, the GAC GS8 boasts elegant amenities like a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch infotainment system, plush leather seats, and comfortable soft-touch materials that litter its generously sized cabin.
Power for both models comes from a 2.0-liter engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The setup, regardless of the drivetrain, makes 248 horsepower and 400 Newton-meters of torque.
