'Spruced-up' Tesla Model Y enters PH market

MANILA: Tesla has updated the Model Y for the Philippine market — months after the nameplate first entered the country.

Under the refreshed iteration (which received the Launch Series treatment), the electrified crossover boasts aesthetic and technological upgrades.

Below are the notable details about the newly-launched Tesla Model Y.

Exterior

The full-electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) has the following measurements:

Since it is a refreshed iteration, the new Tesla Model Y maintained the overall design concept but received some new details. It has less body lines (making it sleeker than the previous version).

In addition, it comes with:

• Full-width LED daytime running lamp bar
• New front and rear bumper look
• Smoked LED taillight bar 
• New rear diffuser
• 19 or 20-inch alloy wheels

Interior

For its cabin, the new Tesla Model Y has an uncluttered layout.

It has a two-spoke steering wheel, ventilated front seats, electronically-adjustable front seats, electronically-adjustable second-row seats, acoustic glass and wireless smartphone charger.

It has two touchscreens: a 15.4-inch at the front and an eight-inch auxiliary for the rear.

According to Tesla, the front display is more than a control unit as it also has video games (via Tesla Arcade), a weather map, built-in navigation system, and the American car brand’s famed Sentry mode for extra security.

In terms of luggage space, the vehicle can haul up to 2,130 liters of cargo.

Powertrain

Powering the new Tesla Model are one or two electric motors — depending on the trim — that can dish out the following figures as seen abroad:

With the said power delivery, the SUV’s top-tier option can sprint 0-100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 4.3 seconds, while the entry-level option in 5.9 seconds.

The vehicle’s range also varies depending on the trim as the vehicle’s top-of-the-line offering can cover up to 551 kilometers (km), while the base variant, 466 km (based on Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure standards).

Technologies

Further, the new Tesla Model Y has numerous features safety technologies such as traction control, anti-lock braking, stability control, vehicle hold control, LATCH child seat anchors, and seven airbags. 

The said gear is backed by a suite of driver assistive systems namely:

• Pedestrian detection
• Pedestrian warning system
• Lane departure avoidance
• Speed assist
• Automatic blind spot camera
• Blind spot collision warning
• Automatic emergency braking

'Launch Series' appointments

Other distinguishing factors of the new Tesla Model Y are the Launch Series appliques found within the vehicle.

This includes rear liftgate and puddle light badges on the outside as well as premium textile, vegan suede fabrics for the dashboard and the badge at the charging console for the interior.
