SsangYong Motors UK announced its partnership with
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service to be as the official vehicle of the British renowned firefighting team.
The partnership will have SsangYong supply the fire and rescue service with three of their
award-winning SsangYong Musso pickup trucks.
The
Musso is a midsize pickup that competes with the likes of the
Nissan Navara, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, and Toyota Hilux, among others.
Built using a body-on-frame construction, the 2019 Musso carries a
2.2-liter e-XDi 220 inline-4 turbodiesel under its hood, able to deliver
179 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a
6-speed automatic transmission. A five-link suspension configuration provides stable support for the rear cargo area.
"We need a versatile vehicle that can operate in a number of environments,” according to fleet and engineering manager at North Wales Fire Service
Geraint Jones.
“The Musso is strong, has 4WD capability with a good ground clearance for use in adverse weather conditions such as snow and floods.”
The firefighters intend to use the pickups as a multi-role support vehicle while adding an emergency resilience capability for fire officers during extreme weather conditions and other operational duties—including carrying fuel bowsers for large incidents, compact high-pressure firefighting pods, and general station support work.
"We’ve been making big strides in the specialist vehicle market and we are delighted that North Wales Fire and Rescue Service is our first fire service,” said
Nick Laird, managing director of SsangYong Motors UK. "The trucks look amazing and are perfect for the role for which they have been purchased - go anywhere, value for money, rugged 4WD vehicles.”
The Musso boasts an upscale two-tone interior design theme that showcases
Brown Nappa leather on the seats and leather steering wheel. Infotainment system is controlled via the eight-inch touchscreen, the same one used in the other models. In addition, the Musso gets powered
8-way adjustable seats for the driver and front passenger. The second-row seat can be reclined up to
27 degrees.
If you’re interested in the Musso, it sells for
PHP 1.495 million locally.
