Such a wackily styled car, with its bug-eyed face and swinging 370Z-esque rear, would probably be a turn-off to many consumers, but that wasn't the case with the Nissan Juke. Worldwide, it landed and left showroom floors en masse in 2010.
The Nissan also had its share of admirers here in its 2016 local release. And so many were saddened to learn that the Juke was quietly phased out this year. Those who desire the spunky crossover can fork out between P600,000 to P800,000 for used examples.
When new, the Juke went for P1.02 million in its Upper CVT variety, and P1.239 million in Nismo spec.
Under the Juke’s hood, which is flanked by signal lights on either side, resides a 1.6-liter, inline four-cylinder engine that pushes out 114hp and 154Nm of torque. The engine is shared between the Upper and Nismo.
The engine is mated to Nissan’s signature X-tronic continuously variable transmission (CVT), known for delivering quick and seamless shifts. Sadly though, Philippine-spec Juke cars didn't get a manual gearbox.
The Juke wheelbase is 2,520 millimeters long, and suspension comprises an independent MacPherson system at the front and a torsion beam axle out back. The crossover only drove its front wheels.
It may be named so, but the Juke Nismo got its sportiness from a styling kit. That kit included a redesigned front bumper, 17-inch black alloy wheels, and a rear diffuser and exhaust finisher. Red details made this trim more unique.
Both cars share have the same interior equipment list, the highlight of which is the I-CON system. Aside from infotainment and driving modes, I-CON manages the air-conditioner, heater, and drive information in one operating system, which used—get this—physical buttons!
Safety
Intelligent Lane Intervention, Moving Object Detection, and Vehicle Dynamic Control, are included in the Juke's Nissan Safety Shield.
Lane Intervention signals an alert if the car veers into another lane, Object Detection monitors for objects appearing behind during reversing maneuvers, while Dynamic Control counteracts over- or understeer.
