The three Subaru models that won the 2023 Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) award are the Ascent, Outback, and Solterra.Further, the Subaru Legacy and Solterra also took awards from the US-based non-profit organization.
“We are absolutely thrilled that all five vehicles tested received a 2023 IIHS Top Safety Pick award, especially under the new criteria. This is a testament to our commitment to our customers that we will provide them with vehicles set to the highest safety standards year over year,” said Subaru of America President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Doll.
The 2023 Subaru Legacy and Forester both won the 2023 Top Safety Pick award while the 2023 Ascent, Outback, and Solterra received the highest possible recognition, the Top Safety Pick+ award.
It is no secret that the IIHS has implemented more strict criteria for the vehicles that are tested in 2023. The organization added new requirements for side crash protection, pedestrian crash prevention systems, and headlights.
The 2023 Subaru Ascent, for example, impressed evaluators as it gained “Good” ratings on the crashworthiness tests including “Superior” ratings on the daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention tests.
Likewise, the 2023 Subaru Ascent also garnered “Good” ratings on the seatbelt reminder and Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) ease of use tests.
Overall, the five aforementioned models from Subaru are a part of a small group of winners that made the cut this year.
“The number of winners is smaller this year because we are challenging automakers to build on the safety gains they’ve already achieved. These models are true standouts in both crashworthiness and crash prevention,” commented IIHS President David Harkey.
