The United States (US) arm of Subaru issued a recall for the 2019-2022 model year (MY) Ascent sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Sold in the Philippines as the Subaru Evoltis, the ground bolt that secures the ground terminal of the Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heater on the US-spec Subaru Ascent may have been improperly fastened during vehicle production. According to Subaru of America, it may result in the melting of the ground terminal and surrounding components, increasing the risk of fire when the PTC heater is in operation.
To date, there have been no crashes or injuries due to this issue, said the carmaker.
All potentially affected vehicles, per Subaru, will have their PTC Heater Ground Bolts replaced. Likewise, the ground wire and connector holders of the affected automobiles will also be changed. The inspection and repair will be completed at no cost to the customer.
Until the inspection and repair are completed by an authorized dealer, Subaru’s customers in the US are being advised to park their vehicles away from garages, carports, or other structures, and to avoid leaving the vehicle unattended while the engine is running.
