Subaru just dropped a teaser photo of the upcoming 2022 Subaru WRX, marking the return of the rally icon.
We sure are happy to see the familiar hood scoop, but the Japanese carmaker has not yet revealed the details of what beast the 2022 WRX hides under the bonnet.
The current-gen Subaru WRX sold locally, however, packs a four-cylinder, 16-valve, DOHC, turbocharged gasoline engine, mated to a six-speed manual tranny with center differential gear coupled with viscous LSD.
Its powertrain setup allowed the famed rally-bred, all-wheel-drive, compact sports sedan to achieve a maximum power output of 268 horses.
On the other hand, the Japanese carmaker says that the latest iteration of the WRX will see a powerful, agile, and completely redesigned vehicle. Subaru even says that the arrival of the 2022 year model will usher in an even more thrilling chapter for the race-bred rally rocket.
Based on the teaser photo, the 2022 WRX features a sleek top profile similar to the current-gen model. With the front fascia dimmed, we’re speculating that the facelift will most likely include new headlamps and a redesigned grille.
Today’s WRX model features LED headlamps with auto leveler, front LED fog lamps, headlamp washers, LED DRLs, rear fog lamps, and side sill spoilers.
The all-new 2022 WRX will debut this year, said Subaru. The world premiere will happen through a live unveiling which Subie fans from around the world can watch live although the details of where and when are yet to be disclosed.
