Suzuki Philippines recently brought the facelifted version of the Celerio compact hatch. Earlier this year, the local arm of the Japanese carmaker introduced a more modern-looking model of its cute car, bringing with it not just updated looks but also additional technological features such as rear parking sensors and hill hold control as well as the Engine Auto Stop-Start System.
It is currently offered in two variants: one fitted with a manual tranny and the other with Suzuki’s Auto Gear Shift (AGS). Today, we’ll look at the two trims to help you decide which among them best suits your motoring needs.
From the outside, both the five-speed manual and the five-speed AGS variant share the same features. At the front are halogen multi-reflector headlamps and front fog lamps while the rear sports a pair of LED taillamps. It also sports power side mirrors, intermittent front wipers, a rear wiper, and a rear window demister.
The same can be said of the interior appointments of the Suzuki Celerio. Found are fabric seats, a urethane steering wheel, and a urethane shift knob.
Its list of interior amenities includes power windows, a manual A/C, a pollen filter, front and rear speakers, a digital tachometer, and a 6.2-inch touchscreen audio unit.
Under the hood, the Suzuki Celerio packs a 1.0-liter gasoline-powered engine that makes 67 horses and 89Nm of torque. It can be mated with either a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed AGS.
Suzuki’s AGS transmission system is an automated manual gearbox that features the Intelligent Shift Control Actuator which automatically operates the shift and clutch. Per Suzuki, this results in ease of driving and a direct drive feel for you, along with low fuel consumption.
Here’s where you’ll notice the difference between the two trims. The base MT variant comes with standard seatbelts while the AGS model features a three-point ELR seatbelt with a center lap belt on the rear seats. In addition, the AGS variant comes with hill hold control as standard — something that the five-speed manual model lacks.
Nevertheless, both models share similar safety features which include ABS, electronic stability control, parking sensors, child seat tether anchorages, and Isofix tethers.
The Suzuki Celerio five-speed manual transmission is priced at P708,000 while the AGS variant costs a little more at P754,000.
