The Suzuki Dzire is a mini subcompact made and manufactured by small car specialist Suzuki. It competes in the same segment as the Toyota Wigo, Honda Brio, and the Mitsubishi Mirage G4.
It was originally launched in 2013 and has had several iterations since then. The current-generation Dzire was recently refreshed in February giving Suzuki’s subcompact a new bumper and a refreshed grille.
The revamped model is out to prove that it has more than just new looks to offer. That said, we check out if the new Dzire is flop or fire.
1. Fuel-efficient mill
The Suzuki Dzire packs a 1.2-liter engine. It’s the brand’s K12M powerplant that produces a decent 82hp and 113Nm of torque. It’s paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or Suzuki’s auto gear shift (AGS) automated manual tranny.
Its powertrain setup allows the Suzuki Dzire’s GA and GL variants to clock in as many as 26.51kpl while the GL+ registers a maximum of 25.99kpl. Suzuki says that the Dzire’s mileage rating was witnessed and certified by the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP).
2. Easy to maintain
Another selling point of the Suzuki Dzire is that the car is generally easy to maintain. Suzuki vehicles are widely sold in the Philippines, and finding spares wouldn’t prove to be a challenge. Suzuki has over 70 dealerships nationwide covering major cities in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
3. Impressive safety features
For its price, the safety features offered by the Suzuki Dzire are quite impressive.
To start off, the Suzuki Dzire features the automaker’s Total Effective Control Technology (TECT). It works by effectively absorbing impact on the body and dispersing the collision energy across the frame to mitigate any damage to the vehicle and its occupants.
In the same way, the Dzire features a pedestrian injury-mitigating body. The structure of this subcompact’s hood, front windscreen wiper area, front bumper, and other parts is designed to mitigate head and leg injuries in the event of a collision with a pedestrian.
Other safety features include the electronic stability program (ESP), a suite of airbags, and reverse parking sensors.
1. A tight five-seater
Suzuki markets the Dzire as a five-seater sedan. However, the rear seating seems to be a bit tight for three full-sized adults.
On the other hand, the Suzuki Dzire makes for a spacious four-seater. It even has a rear seat armrest with two cup holders.
2. Lacks features
The Suzuki Dzire is equipped with basic driving amenities which could work for or against you. That said, both the driver and its passengers won’t have plenty of toys to play with.
Included is a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a steering wheel with controls for audio and communication, 12-volt sockets, and manual air-conditioning with A/C vents at the rear.
The Suzuki Dzire is currently offered in three variants: Dzire GA 1.2L – M/T, the new Dzire GL 1.2L – M/T, and the new Dzire GL+ 1.2L Auto Gear Shift (AGS). These subcompacts are priced at P549,900, P648,000, and P708,000 respectively.
