Suzuki has finally forayed into the local electrified vehicle segment with the Ertiga Hybrid.
Launched this month, the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid looks to compete with the growing list of hybrid vehicles in the country — and probably win the hearts of many Filipino families. It is currently offered in four variants (GA MT Hybrid, GL MT Hybrid, GL AT Hybrid, and GLX AT) that cater to a wide range of budgets and motoring needs.
Today, we look at the four variants of the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid, to help those on the market for a sustainable multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
But before we point out their differences, let’s first look at what all four variants have in common.
All four variants share the same exterior dimensions. All the available models are 4,395 millimeters (mm) long, 1,735mm wide, and 1,690mm tall. Further, their wheelbases and minimum ground clearances are also identical, 2,740mm and 180mm respectively.
Halogen-projector and multi-reflector headlamps as well as rear LED combination lamps are also standard across the range.
Suzuki also fitted all four locally-available Ertiga hybrid MPVs with 15-inch wheels shod in 15-inch tires.
Suspension-wise they all use MacPherson struts with coil springs at the front and a torsion beam setup (with soil spring) at the rear.
They also share the same K15B 1.5-liter gasoline engine and the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) system, which adds an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) to the powertrain setup. The internal combustion engine (ICE) makes a total of 103 horsepower (hp) and a maximum torque of 138Nm while the ISG adds 3.1 horses and 5Nm.
Overall, we’re looking at 106hp and a little over 140Nm.
Stopping power, for all four hybrid MPVs, comes from ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum (leading and trailing) brakes at the rear.
Customers can expect all four Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid trims to have seating for seven, an 803-liter maximum luggage capacity, and a 45-liter fuel tank.
In terms of safety, the whole Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid range gets airbags, seatbelts, an electronic stability program (ESP), side-impact door beams, an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and two rear parking sensors.
With that out of the way, let’s look at how the four available variants stack up against each other.
The Suzuki Ertiga GA MT Hybrid is the base model of the nameplate’s hybrid version. That said, would-be owners can expect basic exterior appointments like a black front grille and black manual side mirrors.
Inside it has a three-spoke urethane steering wheel, a standard instrument cluster, a 1DIN audio unit, and air conditioning for the front passengers. Its seats are covered in fabric.
For convenience, owners will find a 12-volt (V) accessory socket in the audio head unit, front cabin lights, rear cabin lights, sun visors in the driver and the front passenger’s side, cup holders at the front, bottle holders on all four doors, and a remote fuel lid opener.
Its engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
The Suzuki Ertiga GL MT Hybrid offers more upscale features than the aforementioned base variant. That said, it wears more stylish exterior appointments like a chrome front grille, mud flaps in the front and rear wheels, body-colored door handles, a chrome tailgate garnish, and a pair of front fog lights.
As for its interior, it retains most of the features from the base variant with the addition of a center armrest for the second-row seat, an eight-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, rear speakers, rear A/C, and remote control door locks with hazard lamp answer back function.
Like the GA variant, the Suzuki Ertiga GL MT Hybrid is also fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Suzuki Ertiga GL AT Hybrid is pretty much like the Suzuki Ertiga GL MT Hybrid, only with a four-speed automatic transmission. On that note, all of the features offered by its five-speed manual transmission-equipped counterpart can be found on the Suzuki Ertiga GL AT Hybrid.
It also packs a decent-sized (eight-inch) infotainment system, a manual (dial-type) air conditioning system, and a three-spoke urethane steering wheel.
The Suzuki Ertiga GLX AT Hybrid is the range-topping variant, so would-be owners can expect all the bells and whistles to be standard amenities in this model.
For its expanded list of exterior appointments, the Suzuki Ertiga GLX AT Hybrid comes with automatic headlamps with home assist function (activates for 10 seconds after remote locked), power side mirrors with turn signals, and LED rear combination lamps with LED light guides.
Inside, it has a three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, an information display for outside temperature, a faux wood instrument panel ornament, a large 10-inch infotainment system, a keyless push start system, automatic air conditioning, and ventilated cupholders.
Its hybrid powertrain system is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. And oh, it also has a reverse parking camera.
The Suzuki Ertiga GA MT Hybrid, the most affordable of all the four models is priced at P954,000. Meanwhile, the Suzuki Ertiga GL MT Hybrid and the Suzuki Ertiga GL AT Hybrid have a sticker price of P1.068 million and P1.103 million respectively. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line Suzuki Ertiga GLX AT Hybrid will set Filipino car buyers P1.153 million.
