Like a samurai preparing for a fight, Suzuki makes sure that its most vital weapon is sharp and ready for battle. That said, the Minami-Ku-based motorcycle company updates its 2022 Euro-spec Katana with more power and will come with a suite of improved electronics.
The new 2022 Katana produces 150 horses with a broader spread of torque across the rev range than the previous model. Thanks to a new intake and exhaust camshaft, new valve springs, new exhaust, a new airbox, and a new ride-by-wire throttle, the 2022 Katana is now more powerful than ever.
In addition, the 2022 Katana also features the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector system that comes with three selectable engine maps. Mode A provides the sharpest, sportiest response; Mode B offers a softer initial power delivery; while Mode C delivers the softest response, ideal in wet and slippery conditions.
The 2022 Katana also has five selectable traction control modes, which can also be turned off depending on the rider’s preference.
A bi-directional quick shifter also allows faster and smoother gear changes resulting in enhanced performance on sporty rides.
Completing the electronics package is Suzuki’s handy easy start system and low RPM assist, which raises engine speed as the clutch lever is fed out, to aid slow speed control and prevent stalling.
The 2022 Katana is based on the new-for-2021 GSX-S1000 platform and uses the same lightweight, twin-spar aluminum frame. This naked bike is also fitted with the GSX-R-derived swingarm with fully adjustable KYB front forks and a preload and rebound damping adjustable rear shock.
Brembo monobloc calipers bite 310mm front discs, mounted to six-spoke, cast-aluminum wheels shod with Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport2 tires, custom engineered for Suzuki’s GSX-S platform.
The 2022 Katana will be made available in Metallic Matt Stellar Blue (with gold forks and wheels) and Solid Iron Grey (gold forks and red wheels). The new street bike is expected to land on European dealerships from March to May of 2022.
Locally, Suzuki Philippines is offering the 2021 Katana, available in Metallic Mystic Silver and Glass Sparkle Black) with the same 999cc engine priced at P817,000.
