The five-door variant of the Suzuki Jimny has been spotted somewhere on Star Toll Expressway.
Based on the picture posted by Glasspro Windshield Scratch and Crack Repair Auto Detailing on its Facebook page, a handful of Suzuki Jimny five-door sport utility vehicles are being transported via a car carrier, most likely making their way to or from the company’s factory in Canlubang, Laguna.
Its sighting could mean the imminent launch of the model here in the Philippines, though we are yet to hear from the local wing of the Japanese automotive brand.
Our hunch leads us to believe that it is possible that Suzuki Philippines Incorporated will officially add the Jimny five-door to its roster in the first quarter of 2024. It is even likely that it will be rolled out to the Philippine market in January as the Jimny five-door was launched in India in January of last year.
Speaking of which, the Indian-market Suzuki Jimny five-door is powered by the brand’s 1.5-liter K15B engine, which can also be found on locally offered Suzuki models like the three-door Jimny and the XL7 multi-purpose vehicle.
The said powerplant is mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic slushbox to produce a maximum power output of approximately 130 horses and 134 Newton-meters of torque.
Arguably one of the most obvious differences offered by the five-door model to the three-door variant of the Suzuki Jimny is its size. Having an extended cabin, the former (Indian-spec) measures 3,985 millimeters (mm) long, 1,645mm wide, and 1,720mm tall. Further, it clears the ground by 210mm and boasts a wheelbase of 2,590mm.
With the said numbers, it is expected that the Suzuki Jimny five-door will have a roomier interior and a more comfortable ride.
Its would-be owners can now carry more passengers or cargo, depending on their needs.
Aside from the beefier body, the upcoming Suzuki Jimny five-door and its locally available three-door sibling share a bunch of similarities including rounded LED headlamps, the iconic five-slot front radiator grille, wide shoulders with protruding trapezoidal wheel arches, a clamshell bonnet, scratch-resistant bumpers, and a spare wheel slapped on the tailgate of the vehicle.
Similarly, the Suzuki Jimny five-door sold in India comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, plush fabric seats, and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
In terms of safety, the Suzuki Jimny for the Indian market gets a handful of safety technologies including a brake limited slip differential, an anti-lock brake system, electronic brake-force distribution, hill hold control, hill descent control, brake assist, and an electronic stability program, among others.
