Suzuki launches e Vitara
Brand's first-ever BEV based on eVX Concept
Suzuki Motor Corporation has launched its premiere battery electric vehicle — the e Vitara.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
On what concept vehicle was the Suzuki e Vitara based?
The new offering is based on the Suzuki eVX concept. When will the Suzuki e Vitara's production and sales commence?
The Suzuki e Vitara's production and sales shall start next year. The said offering looks very familiar as the production model was based on eVX Concept that recently had its appearance at the 9th Philippine International Motor Show.
Per Suzuki, production and sales of the e Vitara shall commence sometime around late first or early second quarter of 2025. The initial countries that will have the aforementioned product will include Europe, India, and Japan.
Specifications
Created under the “Emotional Versatile Cruiser” concept, the Suzuki e Vitara combines advanced technology and strength as it features the Allgrip-e electric four-wheel-drive system and the newly-developed Heartect-e platform.
Design
Themed “High Tech and Adventure”, the Suzuki e Vitara showed a bold and modern look.
Its exterior comes mostly bold, sharp lines to match its long wheelbase, and large-diameter tires.
Inside, the vehicle has an integrated display with advanced equipment and tough-looking panels and center console.
Drivetrain
Powering the Suzuki e Vitara is one or two eAxles that combine the motor and inverter, together with the lithium iron-phosphate batteries. Its Allgrip-e system is composed of two independent eAxles placed on both ends of the vehicle. Per Suzuki, the system provides powerful performance and allows for precise control with excellent responsiveness.
It also has Trail mode that lets the vehicle escape from rough terrain by applying brakes to spinning tires and distributing drive torque to the opposite tire (LSD function).
Technology
The Suzuki e Vitara boasts the Heartect-e that is lightweight, offers high-voltage protection, and a spacious cabin, thanks to its short overhang. The main floor removes the underfloor members to boost battery capacity.
“The e Vitara is our first BEV, developed through repeated trial and error to create an easy-to-use BEV for our customers. In order to realize a carbon-neutral society, we will provide a variety of options, including BEVs, hybrid vehicles, and CNG vehicles, tailored to specific regions. Introduction of the e Vitara represents a significant milestone in achieving carbon neutrality. Following the launch of the e Vitara, we will continue to expand our BEV line-up and propose mobility solutions tailored to the needs of specific countries and regions,” Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki said.
