Suzuki Philippines Inc. (SPH) has officially launched its premier entry in the local electric vehicle (EV) arena as it officially launched the hybrid version of the Ertiga multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
The introduction of the seven-seater model's hybrid version came after Carmudi Philippines reported in May 2022 about its impending arrival. Based on the information received back then, the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid could be brought “within the year or by first quarter of 2023."
The Japanese automotive distributor locally expressed firm belief that enthusiasts will be captivated by the vehicle’s new Smart Hybrid Vehicle System.
SPH Director and General Manager for Automobile Division Norihide Takei said that the latest member of its roster is an indication of the company’s aggressive stance for 2023.
“The introduction of the new Ertiga Hybrid marks a great beginning for SPH as we introduce our first hybrid entry in the market. With the Ertiga being our flagship and best-selling model, incorporating the hybrid technology and other benefits that it has, this makes the product a well- packed choice for our customers,” he said.
Powering the vehicle is the 1.5-liter K15B engine that comes with a system called Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS), a lithium-ion battery pack, and an engine auto stop start system that helps it deliver lower carbon emissions while covering more roads. The power mill — fitted also with an integrated starter generator (replacing the conventional alternator) — is available in five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission options.
This combination allows the vehicle to dish out a 12.54 kilometer-per-liter fuel consumption, which is nearly eight-percent higher than the regular version on city driving — based on the test conducted with the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP).
For its exterior, Suzuki’s contender in the MPV segment sports an updated front grille and tailgate with chrome accent, as well as the “Hybrid” emblem to differentiate the new offering from the nameplate’s purely gasoline-powered variations.
Further, the new Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid features amenities such as cruise control and audio system controls on the D-shaped steering wheel, 10-inch touch screen audio with Smartlink connectivity, 4.2-inch full-color TFT LCD multi-information display, and automatic headlamps (with follow-me-home function) that guarantees a more pleasurable driving experience.
The new Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid’s body is lightweight yet rigid, thanks to the vehicle’s body structure revolving on the Total-Effective Control Technology and the new HEARTECT platform.
Safety technologies such as hill-hold-control and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) that are present on the new Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid assures more control over the vehicle.
Available in Snow White Pearl, Silky Silver Metallic, and Cool Black Pearl for the entry-level as well as additional colors of Metallic Magma Gray, Burgundy Red Pearl and Brave Khaki Pearl for the mid to the top-tiered variants, the new Ertiga Hybrid is available in all 71 Suzuki Auto dealerships starting today at the following prices:
With the base price at below the P1-million mark, SPH's new offering is the current most-affordable EV in the country.
