Suzuki Philippines has finally introduced the much-awaited five-door variant of the Jimny sport utility vehicle (SUV).
The local arm of the Japanese automotive brand formally unveiled the Jimny 5-Door in an event at Pasay City, where Suzuki Philippines President Koichiro Hirao expressed excitement about the new evolution of a beloved icon, which has become a symbol of adventure and innovation for Filipinos.
“The Jimny, deeply rooted in a rich heritage, stands as a testament to Suzuki’s commitment to excellence. Its popularity is not just a testament to its past glory but a promise of exciting journeys ahead,” Hirao stated.
Outside, the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door is strikingly similar to its three-door sibling. Per our previous report, the only difference it has — in the way of noticeable exterior appointment that is — is its distinct chrome grille and power-folding side mirrors.
That said, would-be owners can still expect the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door to flaunt familiar features like its sturdy boxy body, upright A-pillars and flat clamshell bonnet, dipped lines of the driver and passenger windows, as well as 15-inch wheels.
Inside, the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door has undergone several enhancements while still maintaining that practical and functional cabin. For example, the rear seats of the go-anywhere SUV gets thicker cushioning to provide second-row occupants the same level of comfort as those sitting at the front.
Suzuki also pointed out that the Jimny 5-Door’s interior is finished in black to minimize distractions. Horizontal lines on the instrument panel and vertical lines in the meter cluster and center console panels assist the driver in gauging the vehicle’s angle, especially in challenging terrains such as rough or mountainous terrains.
Additionally, the bigger dimensions of the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door resulted in an expanded luggage space — approximately 40 percent bigger than the three-door model. Further enhancements in the boot area include the addition of a luggage lamp and the removal of the toolbox for simplified loading and unloading of luggage.
Safety-wise, the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door’s GLX variant is fitted with SRS front airbags for both the driver and seat passengers, as well as side airbags and curtain airbags for occupants in both the front and rear seats.
Also, the said model is equipped with a reverse parking camera and sensors to make getting in and out of tight spots easier for drivers.
Powering the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door is the same 1.5-liter engine used in the smaller three-door SUV.
Despite its beefed-up dimensions, the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door still maintains a decent approach, breakover, and departure angles. In addition, it is equipped with a three-link rigid axle suspension with coil spring and part-time 4WD with low-range transfer gear.
The Suzuki Jimny 5-Door can be had in four monotone colors, which are Jungle Green, Celestial Blue Pearl Metallic, Arctic White Pearl, and Granite Gray Metallic. For those looking for a more unique look, the Jimny five-door is available in exclusive two-tone finishes, namely Sizzling Red Metallic - Bluish Black Pearl and Chiffon Ivory Metallic – Bluish Black Pearl.
“Get ready for an incredible journey and experience the beauty of places yet undiscovered that Nobody But Jimny can bring you,” commented Suzuki Philippines Director and General Manager for Automobile Division Norihide Takei.
