Audi Philippines recently brought in the 2021 RS 5 Coupe to bolster its Audi Sport lineup.
The company announced that the vehicle is now available, along with the 2021 RS Q3 Sportback—completing the first five members of the Audi Sport stable in the country.
These two joined the RS 3 Sedan (which spearheaded the arrival of the performance line), the Audi RS 6 station, and the RS Q8 SUV (Nürburgring lap record holder for production SUVs).
According to Audi Philippines, the new Audi RS 5 Coupe “has (become) even sharper and more spectacular, thanks to a host of updated design details and intuitive technologies that match its stunning pulling power and immense traction.”
Powering the new Audi RS 5 Coupe is a 2.9-liter, twin-turbo V6 TFSI engine that has maximum output of 450hp and 600Nm, enabling the vehicle to run from zero to 100kph in 3.9 seconds.
This engine is matched to an eight-speed tiptronic transmission that transfers the engine’s output to the Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. In normal driving, this vehicle engineering distributes 40 percent of the power to the front axle and the rest to the rear. However, the center differential can redirect up to 70 percent of the power toward the front, or up to 85 percent toward the rear—depending on the requirements— that helps achieve better dynamic handling while constantly ensuring traction.
Just like other Audi Sport models, the new Audi RS 5 Coupe rides on the RS sport suspension plus featuring Dynamic Ride Control. This system, consisting of of steel springs and three-way adjustable dampers—constantly counteracts the pitch and roll movements of the vehicle’s body to keep the car planted to the ground, especially during hard cornering, for agile handling.
The characteristics of the dampers (ranging from a comfortably luxurious ride to sporty dynamics), can be interchanged easily using Audi Drive Select.
To enhance the driving experience, the new Audi RS 5 Coupe also has RS1 and RS2 modes that can be configured, saved, and then selected directly via the RS Mode button on the steering wheel. Audi Drive Select controls the engine and transmission management, steering boost, suspension settings, the Quattro differential, the sound emitted by the RS sport exhaust system, and even the automatic air-conditioning.
The interior new Audi RS 5 Coupe is highlighted by a 10.1-inch MMI touch display that provides acoustic feedback, and has a menu that is simple and native to smartphone users. It also has a 12.3-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit that shows special RS displays for information such as tire pressure, torque output, engine oil temperature, boost pressure, and G-forces generated. The timing for lap sessions and acceleration runs can be activated via a button found on the steering wheel.
For its exterior features, the new RS 5 Coupe stays true to its roots. Inspired by the iconic Audi “Ur” Quattro introduced in 1984, the new RS 5 Coupe sports balanced proportions defined by a long hood, short deck, and muscular fenders — marked by a pronounced wavy shoulder line.
Air vents are placed above the signature RS Singleframe grille—same as with the Ur Quattro. Giving it a dash of modernity are its RS-specific darkened Matrix LED headlights, pentagonal side air inlets, and the RS exhaust system finished off by large, black tailpipes.
