Sedans have been pushed under the radar by SUVs, and over at Kia, its current crop of crossovers have cast a shadow over the Forte.
That's a bit of shame, as the Forte has its share of strong suits. Its sheet metal is devoid of overwrought lines and surfaces, while the front-and rear ends project the right amount of sporty details. The Forte is also among the mainstream sedans that's powered by a turbocharged engine.
That turbocharged engine is found in the range-topping Forte Turbo GT, while the typical Kia classy styling also made its way to the mid-spec EX and base LX. As for the other similarities and differences of the three variants, we detail them below.
Visually, 16-inch alloy wheels, halogen headlamps, and turn signal indicators on the front fenders are unique to the entry-level Forte. The brand's signature Tiger Nose grille is finished in a simple shade of black, which would blend well with the LX-exclusive exterior color of Steel Gray.
As for interior features, the Forte LX is equipped with a polyurethane tiller and manual air-conditioner. Like the interior of the mid-variety EX, the LX has fabric seats. The eight-screen infotainment with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth are shared with the entire Forte range.
The Forte LX and EX are powered by a 1.6-liter non-turbo gasoline engine, with power and torque outputs of 126hp and 155Nm. They likewise share a six-speed automatic transmission.
Similar to the GT trim above it, the Forte EX wears LED lights front and rear, projector type foglamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, and turn signal lights on their side mirrors. More exterior similarities of the two include a gloss black grille, and color options such as Aurora Black.
It's the story inside, too, as the Forte EX carries a leather-wrapped steering wheel, USB charger, and dual zone auto climate with rear AC vents like the GT. Both cars link four speakers with two tweeters to the infotainment, and both cars have front and rear parking sensors.
As evident in its name, the Forte GT's highlight is its 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. The mill makes 200hp and 265Nm of torque, and is mated to a seven-speed dual clutch that drives the front wheels.
To emphasize its sporty intent, the Forte GT wears a Runway Red paintjob (also available in EX) and a GT badge on its gloss black grille. Out back, the GT carries two chrome-tipped tailpipes, and like the EX, there's a stop lamp on the spoiler.
Entering the Forte GT is done by keyless entry, and switching on and off the turbo engine is done with a button. Behind the leather wheel are paddle shifters, while the leather-clad driver and passenger seats can be adjusted by way of buttons and power assistance.
