Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) officially launched the all-new BR-V earlier this week. And with its arrival, the carmaker confirmed that the second generation subcompact crossover sport utility vehicle (SUV) can be had in four fresh variants namely 1.5 S MT, S CVT, V CVT, and the range-topping VX CVT Honda Sensing.
Just which among them best suits your budget and motoring needs? Let’s find out.
All four variants measure 4,490 millimeters (mm) long and 1,780mm wide. However, the base 1.5 S MT model is shorter than the rest of its brothers. It measures only 1,651mm tall while the other three stand at 1,685mm.
Nevertheless, all PH-spec Honda BR-Vs offer similar wheelbase and ground clearance, which are 2,700mm and 207mm respectively.
Full LED headlights, LED daytime running lights (DRL), side mirror-integrated turn signals, LED taillamps, and an LED high-mount stop lamp are made standard across the board. However, headlights with automatic on and off functions are reserved only for the top-of-the-line model. Likewise, the base variant does not get LED front fog lamps.
The 1.5 S MT and S CVT trims are fitted with a black front grille, a black bumper skid garnish, black side sill garnish, and body-colored door handles. Conversely, the V CVT and VX CVT Honda Sensing grades receive a gloss black front grille, a silver bumper skid garnish, silver-painted side sill garnish, and chrome door handles.
A micro pole antenna and a set of 16-inch steel wheels are fitted on the base 1.5 S MT model while the rest of the lineup are equipped with a shark fin antenna and a set of 17-inch alloy wheels.
Other exterior appointments shared by all four models include a single exhaust pipe, a roof rail, and a tailgate spoiler.
Inside, the 1.5 S MT and S CVT variants sport seats finished in high-grade fabric. They are complemented by a urethane steering wheel and a urethane shift knob. They also both get a digital instrument cluster and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The V CVT and VX CVT Honda Sensing models get a more upmarket interior. The seats, the steering wheel, the shift knob, and the door panel armrests are all finished with plush leather material. The former gets a digital instrument cluster and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system while the latter boasts a 4.2-inch full-color thin-film-transistor (TFT) meter paired with the same seven-inch infotainment unit.
All four models are equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine under the hood. The base model is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox while the other three variants all get a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Power peaks at 119 horses while maximum torque is at 145Nm.
Safety-wise, all variants get an anti-lock brake system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), vehicle stability assist (VSA), hill start assist (HSA), a security alarm, an immobilizer, and an emergency stop signal.
The range-topping model gets added features through the Honda Sensing technology. They come in the form of adaptive cruise control (ACC), auto high beam (AHB), lead car departure notification (LCDN), collision mitigation braking system (CMBS), lane keeping assist system (LKAS), road departure mitigation (RDM), and lane departure warning (LDW).
