The Honda HR-V is one of the newest vehicles offered by the local arm of the Japanese car brand. It is touted as a high-riding subcompact crossover SUV that delivers equal amounts of sporty, luxury, and practicality.
In this article, we look at the pros and cons of the Honda HR-V to see if it’s a vehicle worthy of your hard-earned money.
The Honda HR-V is arguably one of the best-looking models in the segment. It sports a more mature look with plenty of horizontal lines with just the right amount of curves here and there. At the fore is either a bar-type or a black mesh-type grille with either a standard or a sport-type bumper and bumper spoiler. The rear end comes with a tailgate spoiler with the range-topping model getting a turbo emblem and a dual tailpipe setup. Enhancing its handsome looks is a set of 17-inch alloy wheels.
It also wears a more modern set of exterior appointments with full LED headlights, LED DRLs, LED turn signals, a pair of LED taillights, and an LED high-mount stop lamp.
Another advantage of driving the HR-V, even on the daily, is its peppy yet efficient engine. It can be had with either a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine or a 1.5-liter turbocharged one. The former makes 119 horses while the latter makes 175hp.
It clocks in at 10 kilometers per liter (kpl) in the city and 18kpl on the highway.
Despite being new to the segment, the Honda HR-V has earned a reputation for having good ride quality. The CVT helps in smoother transitions across the speed spectrum and the suspension system also aids the crossover to deliver a plush riding experience.
At the front are McPherson struts while the rear sports axle-type suspensions.
One of the downsides of the Honda HR-V, especially if you’re planning to use it as a daily driver, is the abundance of piano black trims. This means that you’ll get fingerprints on your crossover very quickly which could ruin the smooth piano black accent’s smooth and sheer appeal.
In addition, these trims can also reflect scratches that the cabin accumulates over time.
