The highs and the lows of the Ford Everest

Ford introduced the Everest back in 2003 as an attempt to enter the local SUV segment. Since then, it has always been on the list of many car buyers looking for a capable midsize SUV.

The current-gen Everest packs the ideal blend of modern amenities and on-road/off-road capabilities. This makes the Everest one of Ford’s best-selling models in both the local and global markets.

Can’t decide whether to go with the Everest’s trusted reliability or to buy a different SUV? Let our list of pros and cons help you make an informed buying decision.

Pros

1. Road presence

Who are we kidding? With its larger-than-life size, the Ford Everest not only attracts attention but also demands respect both in standstill as well as when in motion. Tailgating vehicles would think twice about keeping their noses up your rear and aggressive drivers wouldn’t even dare overtake you on the road.

The Ford Everest also rides tall with 225mm of ground clearance.

2. Impressive interiors

Ford Everest’s large dimensions can also be felt while riding inside the SUV. The leather seats are soft and spacious with enough head and legroom.

Its interior amenities include power windows, dual-zone electronic automatic air-conditioning, ambient lighting, 12V power outlets, and an eight-inch color TFT touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

3. A suite of safety features

The Ford Everest also packs a slew of safety features that make it an ideal choice for many Filipino families.

Its list of amenities include pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection (autonomous emergency braking), adaptive cruise control with forward collision alert, lane-keeping, and driver alert system, semi-auto active park assist, terrain management system, blind-spot monitoring, cruise control, electronic stability control with ABS, EBD, and roll stability control, as well as hill descent and hill launch assist.

Cons

1. Not a city driver

We’re not saying you can’t or you shouldn’t use the Everest as a city car, but you’ll have a hard time maneuvering this mid-size SUV around the tight streets of the metro. Plus, finding a parking space can sometimes be a pain.

One of the trade-offs for its large dimensions is a longer wheelbase and high turning radius. On that note, the Ford Everest makes for a better ride on open roads and provincial thoroughfares compared to the narrow city streets.

2. Engine can be noisy

The Ford Everest can be had with either a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine or a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel mill. While both powertrains are powerful, they can be noisy especially when revved hard.

Buy or bye?

The Ford Everest won’t be one of the country’s best-selling SUVs for no reason. It does have some drawbacks, but the benefits of driving and owning one outweigh its potential obstacles.

Ford Philippines is currently offering the Ford Everest in four variants: 2.0L Bi-Turbo Titanium+ 4x4 AT, 2.0L Turbo Titanium 4x2 AT, 2.0L Turbo Sport 4x2 AT, and 2.2L Trend 4x2 AT.

These mid-size Ford SUVs are priced at P2,299,000, P1,995,000, P1,928,000, and P1,738,000, respectively.
