The Hyundai Elantra N has been unveiled
After releasing teasers since June last year up to last month, Hyundai Motor Company has finally unveiled the Elantra N, adding to the Korean carmaker’s stable of “everyday sports cars” under its high-performance N brand.
Launched via digital world premiere posted over YouTube, the Elantra N is the sportier version of the latest-generation Elantra, which was introduced in April last year.
Known as Avante N in its home country, the Elantra N is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo flat power engine that has a maximum output of 276hp and 392Nm of torque. But thanks to its N Grin Shift (NGS), the hot sedan can provide a temporary output of up to 286hp. As result, the Elantra N can reach a top speed of 250 kph and has the capability to reach 100kph from standstill in 5.3 seconds.
Supplementing the car’s high-performance features are N Corner Carving Differential (e-LSD, electronic Limited Slip Differential), Variable Exhaust Valve System and Launch Control — that all come as standard. Meanwhile, the DCT models have the following features as standard to maximize driving pleasure:
- N Grin Shift (NGS),
- N Power Shift (NPS) and
- N Track Sense Shift (NTS).
For the first time in a Hyundai vehicle, an integrated drive axle (IDA) is fitted in the Elantra N—the same technology used in WRC rally cars. Aside from being lighter, it is also designed to withstand extreme lateral g-force.
Another first on a Hyundai is the dual compound insulator found on the front suspension of the Elantra N matched to the dual compound trailing arm bush for enhanced ride performance while reducing noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels.
The Elantra N also has a new infotainment system for enhanced readability and visibility of various driving information. It also helps in tracking the driver's current location on the track and automatically records lap time in real time.
On the outside, the Elantra N sports a race helmet-inspired front fascia. Providing accent to the sporty sedan is its N-exclusive red strip at the bottom of the front bumper that continues along its side skirts. Seen at the rear are the wing-type spoiler, rear diffuser, an inverted triangle type reflector and dual single muffler tip (similarly seen in a Formula One race car).
For the interiors, occupants will see an N-branded steering wheel, shifter, seats, door scuff panels and metal pedals, among others.
