Automobili Lamborghini has recently celebrated the fourth-year anniversary of the Urus.
Launched on December 2017 in Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters, the supercar manufacturer said that the Lamborghini Urus has opened a new segment in the luxury car division — the Super SUV (sport utility vehicle) — and “positioned as a reference point in terms of power, performance, driving dynamics, design, luxury, and everyday usability.”
Aside from that, the said model took off during the last four years and became a major player in the SUV segment — starting the “greatest period of transformation for Automobili Lamborghini.”
With the help of the Lamborghini Urus, the company enjoyed record levels in sales, turnover and profitability throughout the brand’s history. Turnover grew by 40 percent from €1,009 million to €1,415 million in 2018, the year when the SUV sales started. It has also reached €1.81 billion in 2019 and €1.61 billion in 2020 — the year the company enjoyed record profitability amid the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic presented.
In 2019, the total global sales reached 8,205 Lamborghini units delivered to clients (+43 percent), which is double the volume achieved before the arrival of the Urus.
From 2018 down to its latest count this year, Automobili Lamborghini already turned over 16,000 Urus worldwide, making it the best-selling model over four years in the company’s history.
The company also shared that the Lamborghini Urus is available in five continents, with 85 percent of clients being new to the marque.
Further, the production of the Lamborghini Urus led to the expansion of the Sant’Agata Bolognese production site from 80,000 to 160,000 square meters. This covers the creation of a new facility and paintshop, as well as the new finishing department, new office building, test track, new logistics warehouse, a second trigeneration plant and an energy hub.
It has also spurred employment with the hiring of more than 700 personnel in over four years on permanent contracts.
The Lamborghini Urus is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that can deliver 650hp and 850 Nm of torque. This power mill allows the Lamborghini Urus to accelerate from 0-100 kph in 3.6 seconds and can reach a top speed of 305 kph.
It now comes in 45 different colors compared to the 16 hues that the company offers to customers during the start of sales. The development of more body colors is attributed to the construction of a dedicated paintshop and to the work of the Lamborghini Ad Personam department, which develops new customization options.
Moreover, the vehicle can be driven in various terrains, thanks to its six different driving modes (Strada, Sport, Corsa, Sabbia, Terra and Neve), added to which is the EGO system.
Furthermore, the Lamborghini Urus has astonishing records this year. These are the speed record on ice at Days of Speed event held in Russia where it had a top speed of 298 kph and an average speed from a standing start of 114 kph over 1,000 meters and climbing the highest motorable road in the world: the top of the Umling La Pass in the Himalayan part of India in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
Locally, PGA Cars started marketing the Lamborghini Urus last June. Its rivals include the Aston Martin DBX and the Bentley Bentayga.
