The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 vs. the world (in its price point)

Introduced in the Philippine subcompact sedan segment in 2013, the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is a compact and economical sedan that’s designed to deliver better fuel efficiency and value for money.

For the month of May, the local arm of the Japanese carmaker sold 807 units of Mirage G4, second only to the brand’s compact workhorse, the L300.

It continues to be a driving force for Mitsubishi Philippines because of its affordability and reliability.

Some of the features that define the Mirage G4 are its simple yet stylish exterior features including the diamond-cut front grille, front fog lamps, power side mirrors with integrated turn signals, and 15-inch alloy wheels.

During out-of-town trips, the Mirage G4 keeps its passengers entertained with a 6.75-inch multimedia system with a touchscreen monitor and Mirrorlink features.

Under the hood, Mitsubishi’s subcompact sedan car packs a 1.2-liter DOHC MIVEC engine capable of generating 77hp with 100Nm of torque.

MMPC offers the Mitsubishi Mirage in three variants: the Mirage G4 GLX M/T (P735,000), Mirage G4 GLX CVT (P794,000), and the Mirage G4 GLS CVT (P869,000).

Hyundai Reina

The Hyundai Reina is a similarly stylish subcompact sedan that’s packed with practical features inside and out.

For starters, you get a hexagonal grille flanked with halogen headlamps on each side. It does sport fender-integrated turn signals that complement the Hyundai Reina’s flowing body lines.

Interior amenities include a 1-DIN AM/FM radio system which is enough to keep occupants entertained during long drives. A special AVN (audio, video, navigation) package is made available on select variants which adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionalities.

Powering the Hyundai Reina is a 1.4-liter MPI engine that produces a maximum power of 94hp 132Nm of torque.

Hyundai Philippines (Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc.), the official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines, offers the Reina in four variants: the Reina 1.4 GL 5MT (P683,000), Reina 1.4 GL 4AT (P733,000), Reina 1.4 GL 5MT with AVN (P733,000), and the Reina 1.4 GL 4AT with AVN (P783,000).

Kia Soluto

The Kia Soluto offers a more modern take on the subcompact sedan. As an example, it sports a stylish grille paired with halogen headlamps, projector fog lamps, and front air curtain intakes. It has electrically adjustable side mirrors with LED turn signals and rides on either 14-inch alloy or steel wheels.

During long drives, the Kia Soluto uses its seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with AM/FM radio, MP3, with USB and Aux-in ports to keep driver and passengers engaged.

Pop the hood open and you get a 1.4-liter dual CVVT engine that’s capable of putting out 94hp with 132Nm of torque.

Like its fellow South Korean, the Kia Soluto is also available in four variants: the Soluto 1.4 LX M/T (P665,000), Soluto 1.4 LX A/T (P710,000), Soluto 1.4 EX M/T (P710,000), and the Soluto 1.4 EX A/T (P755,000).

Toyota Vios

The Toyota Vios is proof why Toyota the most popular car brands in the Philippines. Depending on the variant, you get halogen or projector headlights with fog lamps and LED DRLs. Likewise, your variant of choice will decide whether the Vios rides on 14-inch, 15-inch, or 16-inch wheels.

The Vios offers a seven-inch infotainment system to keep its passengers busy when stuck in traffic.

Available powertrains include a 1.3-liter and a 1.5-liter Dual VVT-I DOHC 16V EFI gasoline engine. The former can produce 98hp with 123Nm of torque while the latter offers more with 105hp and 140Nm of torque.

Toyota Philippines is currently offering the Vios in 10  variants with prices ranging from P681,000 to P1,020,000.
