Only a few vehicles are as aptly named as the Suzuki All-Purpose Vehicle, or APV for short. Since its local introduction sometime between 2005 and 2006, the APV has been the workhorse of businesses, and chariot of families. 

There are two variants of the APV, the GA and GLX, which go for P593,000 and P813,000, respectively. Aside from cargo gear, the two APV variants can both accommodate eight people. They also share a fair amount of aces and flaws. 

Pros

1. Distinctive design  

With its boxy posturing, short nose, and cab-forward design, the APV's looks are similar to Volkswagen's Multivan Kombi. Given that the Kombi is an upscale German model, that leads us to the next pro of the APV. 

2. Value for money 

Taking a look at the APV's range of prices, it is little surprise that this Japanese-developed vehicle is chosen by enterprises and families as their basic transport of choice. Three rows for less than P1 million pesos seem like a bargain. 

3. Basics covered

While it isn't toting as many toys as its younger sibling the Ertiga, the APV still comes with the basics. The equipment list is comprised of power windows, aircon for the first and second row, and an eight-inch infotainment screen. 

4. Reliable 

Considering how long it has been on sale and in production, it's likely that many shops are carrying spare parts for the APV. Add to that Suzuki's reputation for reliability, then the APV is sure to provide many years of service. 

Cons

1. Average refinement 

The APV's 1.6-liter gas mill is located under the two front seats. That means that when the engine's 91hp and 127Nm of torque are flexing their muscles, noise may permeate into the cabin. NVH levels, as well as ride quality, may also reveal the vehicle's age. 

2. Manual only

Available solely with a five-speed manual, that might limit the APV's appeal to drivers seeking driving convenience. On the upside, this might be good news to those who desire maximum fuel efficiency. 

3. Safety features lacking

The APV comes equipped with ABS and three-point seatbelts. That appears slightly archaic compared to the competition's stability controls, hill hold functions, and multiple airbags.
