Many people may have been proclaiming that "(insert color) is the new black," but Subaru in the USA begs to differ with the Ascent Onyx Edition.
Basically a blacked-out Ascent, with its chrome trim on the grille and the foglamp housings all in the dark color. The 20-inch alloy wheels also got the same treatment, while out back, Onyx Edition badges adorn the tailgate.
Black also finds its way inside the Ascent Onyx Edition, with unique dark accents in the door panels. Subaru’s StarTex water-repellant seats are also fitted as standard but overall, the cabin is no different from other Ascent SUVs.
All the styling upgrades can give one ideas should they modify the locally-available Ascent, which goes by the name Evoltis.
The Ascent Onyx is made unique by its features. It carries reverse automatic braking, a power liftgate, a heated steering wheel, and keyless entry with push-to-start ignition. The Onyx is placed above the Ascent Premium.
This black Subaru can also be optioned with a panoramic moonroof, updated navigation, and a retractable cargo cover. More optional toys include a Starlink eight-inch multimedia navigation system with a 14-speaker Harman Kardon setup.
The Evoltis gets the Ascent's FA24, 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine paired to a lineatronic continuous variable transmission. The engine generates 260 hp and 375Nm torque.
The seven-seater Subaru also houses a 54-inch panoramic sunroof, three-zone automatic climate control with rear-seat controls, smart rearview mirror, multiple USB ports, power outlets, and 19 bottle holders around the cabin.
For safety, the Evoltis packs Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Sway Warning, and Lead Vehicle Start Alert.
Measuring 4,998 millimeters (mm) long, 1,930mm wide, and 1,819mm tall, with a ground clearance of 220mm, the Subaru has entered quite a crowded segment.
