Toyota announced that the Corolla badge recently reached a milestone 50 million units in sales.
According to the Japanese automotive titan, the milestone achieved by the Toyota Corolla “underscores the robust confidence and belief in the Corolla’s build quality, reliability, safety, and durability.”
In a span of 12 generations and 55 years (and counting), the Toyota Corolla has been made available in more than 150 countries around the world. To note how many Corollas were built, think of it this way: about one in every five Toyotas built is a Corolla.
Toyota Motor Asia-Pacific Chief Operating Officer Hao Tien expressed delight over the latest feat that the brand has reached.
“The Corolla in many ways, mirrors the growth story of Toyota around the world. It has kept faithful to its heritage and ethos of bringing happiness to every person who drives one; it has also stayed nimble with the times, always keeping several steps ahead in terms of design, comfort, and technological features to ensure uncompromising safety, performance and reliability,” Tien was quoted as saying, noting that he too is a proud Corolla owner.
“On behalf of Toyota, we would like to thank and express our deep appreciation to all Toyota dealers and Corolla owners who have contributed to this global milestone. We are confident with your continued and enthusiastic support, Corolla will remain a well-loved and trusted model for decades to come.”
Further, Toyota noted that among the models that it has produced, the Corolla offers hybrid electric options — “drawing from the leadership of Toyota in electrification technology since the launch of the Prius Hybrid 21 years ago.” “The 11th-generation Corolla — introduced in 2012 — is the first model to offer hybrid electric options, making the Corolla fans a variety: hybrid and internal combustion drivetrains.
“The Corolla is a car that is always ready to evolve to meet customers’ current needs. For this reason, it has been a long-term favorite of customers all over the world,” Chief Engineer in charge of Development of the 12th-Generation Corolla Yasushi Ueda was quoted as saying.
The Toyota Corolla is available in different variations. In Asia, the most popular Corolla option is the four-door sedan. However, Toyota has introduced the Corolla Cross SUV, expanding Corolla lineup further. Apart from the Philippines, the Corolla Cross is available in other Asian markets including Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Vietnam.
