As the Fortuner became a fixture on the streets and on top of sales tallies, many carmakers had a say in the midsize SUV segment.
So to maintain its lead, Toyota gave the Fortuner attractions to accompany the familiar badge. A more powerful engine, as well as additional tech and safety kit have been wrapped around a fresh new look.
Those are some of the pros to consider when eyeing the Fortuner. Across its six variants, it wears a price tag of P1.633 to P2.414 million, on par with its wannabe usurpers.
Like the Fortuner, a new look (courtesy of the Dynamic Shield) was added to the Montero Sport's arsenal. A 2.4-liter MIVEC diesel engine that makes 179hp and 430Nm of torque powers all Montero trims.
Those numbers are closer to the Fortuner's 2.4-liter diesel with 147hp and 400Nm of torque. Another engine option is a 2.8-liter diesel one with 201hp and 500Nm.
Expected to arrive this month, the mu-X will likely rival the Fortuner's safety kit with its Advance Driver Assist System (ADAS) technology. The mu-X is also said to pack larger side rails, eight cross members, and improved torsional rigidity.
Toyota's Safety Sense (TSS) makes an appearance in the Fortuner LTD and Q. TSS includes Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Panoramic View Monitor and a reversing camera can be optioned.
Entering the midsize SUV arena with a new look is the Terra. Aside from a facelift, the Terra is tech-rich with wireless Apple CarPlay, Bose Sound system, and an 11-inch fold down entertainment screen for second- and third row passengers.
A Smart Entry and Push Start System are fitted to the Fortuner LTD, Q, and V variants, as well as an eight-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A nine-speaker JBL audio system thumps in the top-spec LTD.
