Ayala-backed Volkswagen Philippines announced that the T-Cross subcompact SUV will be released here next month in line with the company's thrust toward providing the local market with global products.
During a virtual roundtable discussion, Volkswagen Philippines marketing director Franz Decloedt said that the unveiling of the much-anticipated subcompact SUV will be done on May 26.
The model will be available in two variants: the MPI AT S and the MPI AT SE. These two options will be powered by a Euro 6-rated, 1.5-liter, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission (tiptronic). The said powertrain can dish out a maximum 113hp and 145Nm of pulling power.
The said model, as Volkswagen Philippines President Felipe Estrella III said at the online presser, has a 2,651-mm wheelbase—the longest in the local subcompact SUV market. Estralla also said that the Philippine-spec model will be longer than the European version.
Pricing for the upcoming Volkswagen T-Cross starts at ₱1.098 million for the MPI AT S, while the 1.5 MP AT SE variety will be retailed at ₱1.198 million—within the ₱1.1 to ₱1.3 million price range Estrella previously mentioned.
Decloedt said that those who are targeting first dibs on the forthcoming model can enjoy a ₱30,000 reduction from its suggested retail price as Volkswagen Philippines is currently selling the T-Cross MP AT S for only P1.068 million and the MP AT SE for ₱1.168 million.
