The Volkswagen Tiguan Urban Sport stays true to its name
It's easy to mistake the Volkswagen Tiguan Urban Sport as just an accessorized compact SUV. That's because underneath exterior modifications are features that aren't easily seen, such as a progressive steering system, and a sports suspension.
Volkswagen said the Tiguan Urban Sport's progressive steering makes the tiller lighter to heavier as speed increases. As expected, the sports suspension is firmed up to counter body lean.
In Europe, the Urban Sport guise was recently made available in the Tiguan with the 1.5-liter turbo, and the two-liter diesel varieties.
To show the sporty intent, Volkswagen said the SUV has tinted rear windows, while the LED headlights are equipped with the Light Assist headlight control system. Light Assist automatically switches the high beams off to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic.
Other exterior enhancements include Urban Sport lettering on the doors, a rear bumper in the same color as the car, with a continuous reflective strip and a black rear spoiler featuring R styling.
The Tiguan Urban Sport's front bumper has high-gloss black accents, as well as its side mirror casings, and 18-inch Sebring alloy wheels
Upon entering the car, the driver is welcomed by illuminated door sills. The pedals and footrest come in brushed stainless steel, which hover above the floor mats with grey stitching.
The Tiguan Urban Sport's black seats have anthracite with red stitching, and decorative inserts.
Standard equipment include "Air Care Climatronic" air conditioning with active combination filter, AC controls in the rear, three-zone temperature control, and the Lane Assist safety feature.
A set of gadgets can be also optioned in the Tiguan Urban Sport. This includes a head-up display, Harman Kardon sound system with nine speakers and a total output of 480 watts, a digital 16-channel amplifier, and a subwoofer.
The extra equipment also includes LED matrix headlights with LED daytime running light, dynamic cornering light, headlight range adjustment, adverse weather light, and turning light, VW said.
Aside from being the bestselling car in its class in Europe, the Tiguan nameplate was considered to be one of the most popular SUVs in the world, with global sales that once exceeded six million units.
The locally available T-Cross has its fair share of fame. The local Volkswagen distributor said the subcompact crossover received “overwhelming public demand” when it was launched last summer.
