Sitting in between the Honda Accord and the Honda Civic is the Honda Insight, the Japanese marque’s hybrid sedan. The Insight has come a long way since its 2000 release as a 2 door subcompact hybrid, now being marketed as a four-door compact. The new 2021 Insight is arriving at US dealerships starting this week.

 

The newest generation Honda Insight features a “newly available blind spot information (BSI) with Cross Traffic Monitor along with a new exterior color—Radiant Red Metallic. With best-in-class passenger space, upscale interior appointments and a refined driving experience, the 2021 Insight is a premium compact sedan with EPA city fuel economy rating up to 55 miles per gallon or 23 kilometers per liter.

"The 2021 Insight carries a Suggested Retail Price of $22,930 (PhP 1.16 million) excluding $955 (PhP 50,000) destination and handling fee, as stated in their press release.

 

 

The Insight directly rivals the Toyota Prius, with Honda even claiming that their car has an edge over the competition.  The Insight comes in three variants, the LX, EX, and Touring trims. All variants come standard with multi-element LED headlights, push-button start, and the Honda Sensing^® suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies.

New this year, the mid range Insight EX adds blind spot information and Rear Cross Traffic Monitor to its specifications, while the 8-inch Display Audio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remains standard. The EX variant also comes with a 3 mode drive system, LED Headlamps with auto on/off, cruise control, and an automatic climate control system. The top of the line Insight Touring added leather seating surfaces, an 8-way power driver's seat, Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, and illuminated vanity mirrors.

All variants of the 2021 Honda Insight for the North American market is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, paired with an electric propulsion Atkinson-cycle, two-motor system and intelligent power unit containing the hybrid battery pack. In total, the car has an output of 151 horsepower and 267 Nm torque. The base LX model starts at $23,885 (approximately PhP 1.2 million), while the mid range EX is priced at $25,765 (PhP 1.3 million), and the top of the line Touring range starts at $29,795 (PhP 1.5 million).

"The Honda Insight, with standard Honda Sensing® technology, is the only compact hybrid sedan to earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for 2020," Honda noted.

"Also, the Insight recently received a top-five green score from the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), beating out multiple plug-in and battery electric vehicles."
