The most powerful factory-produced Ford Mustang of all time — the Shelby GT500 — has been modified by Hennessey that allowed the vehicle to dish out more than 1,000 horses.
Dubbed as the Venom 1200 Mustang GT500, the souped-up pony car puts out 58 percent more power than the stock Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. For comparison’s sake, an untouched Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 makes 750 horsepower (hp) and 850Nm of torque.
The Hennessey Performance team tuned the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 from the Shelby GT500 and added a higher capacity 3.8-liter supercharger, a high-flow induction system, new fuel rails and injectors, and an air/oil separation system. The said upgrades from the Texas-based high-performance car tuner took the powerplant’s maximum power output to 1,187 horses and the maximum torque to 1,222Nm.
Furthermore, fittings, lines, belts, and tensioners are upgraded, and the dual-clutch transmission is recalibrated for its high-output role. Lastly, the vehicle is calibrated on Hennessey’s in-house dynamometer, before being road-tested.
“The stock Shelby GT500 is an extraordinary muscle car, but we take it to the nth degree with our Venom 1200. Our engineers were able to coax more than 400 additional horsepower out of the engine, which takes performance to supercar levels. Only a handful of vehicles in the world offer this level of power… especially at this price point,” commented Hennessey Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Hennessey.
Only 66 samples of the Hennessey Venom 1200 Mustang GT500 will be built globally. Would-be owners will have the choice of adding the historic 1966 24 Hours of Daytona Ford Mark II GT40 red, white, and black livery to their build.
