Honda Civic RS Turbo (starts from ₱ 1,413,000)
Of course, Philippine's 2016 Car of the Year makes it to our list. What we like about the Civic RS Turbo is its impressive combination of smart engine technology and features. Because really, it defies the belief that the engine's displacement is directly proportional to its power; that the bigger your car's engine displacement is, the more power it will have. With only a 1.5-liter turbo engine to work with, the Civic RS Turbo packs an impressive power of 173 hp and 220 Nm of torque. Combined with a Continuously Variable Transmission, its performance is like a dream on Earth. “Earth Dreams” technology, indeed!

Mazda 6 SkyActiv-D (starts from ₱ 1,985,000)
One of the reasons why people prefer diesel-powered cars is because of their fuel efficiency. Generally, diesel-powered vehicles have better fuel economy compared to their gasoline counterparts. But contrary to the myth that diesel engine emissions are dirty, diesel engines nowadays are backed up by impressive technology to adhere to strict emission requirements.
Ask and Mazda shall answer. Mazda's diesel engine technology in their latest Mazda 6 update is a proof of the demands for greener hearts. What's special about the Mazda 6 is that it isn't only powered by a diesel engine, after all, but the said engine showcases a special engine technology called the SkyActiv-D which complies with the Euro 6 emission standards, or Euro 4 in the country.
Eco-friendly with a combo of being feature-packed and fun to drive? It's no wonder Mazda 6 snagged the spot for the Midsize car category in last year’s Car of the Year and Truck of the Year Philippines awards.

With elegant and athletic exterior and interior designs, 1.4-liter gasoline engine under the hood that gives 92 hp and 130 Nm of torque, and a slew of advanced features, the winner for last year's Subcompact car category in the Car of the Year Philippines and Truck of the Year Philippines awards shows that balance is the key.

Volkswagen started 2016 with a bang, bringing in their refreshed Jetta sedan with two variants. The TDI Comfortline variant featured a 2.0-liter diesel engine that delivered 138 hp and 236 Nm, while the TSI Trendline variant sported a smaller 1.4-liter gasoline engine that produced 158 hp and 240 Nm. Significantly better, too, since they're mated to a Direct Shift Gearbox (6-speed DSG transmission and 7-speed DSG transmission respectively) and equipped with TDI (Turbo Direct Injection) and TSI (Turbo Stratified Injection) engines. Other updates to the Jetta included features like ABS, Cruise Control, Hill Hold Control, and ESP.
However, stay on your toes, for a new Jetta will be coming by the end of May this 2017! Powered by a 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine which is linked to a 6-speed DSG transmission system, the new Jetta can produce 150 Ps and 340 Nm.

Mazda CX-3 (starts from ₱ 1,280,000)
More often than not, we favor our sight the most among our other senses. From form to functionality, there are a number of reasons why people choose certain things, though it is undeniable that appearance takes up a huge chunk in our judgments. Maybe that's why the CX-3 appealed to many. It has the signature Mazda Kodo design language – a striking, premium look that may even look like it would belong to the luxury segment. Although this 5-seater crossover SUV is more than what meets the eye. As crossovers are known for, the CX-3's strengths lie on its maneuverability and roomy interior despite its size. Certainly in a country where potholes and traffic are common, it's ideal for those who can't afford to drive a behemoth of a metal but want to lug a lot of stuff and drive through challenging roads.
Easy to drive with a bunch of features to boot, needless to say, the CX-3 is the top dog in its segment, its FWD Sport variant bagging the Compact Crossover SUV category in the 2016 Car of the Year-Philippines and Truck of the Year-Philippines awards, and all.
