Prior to its official launch in the Land Down Under, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport will be showcased at the upcoming 2023 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.
The new halo pick-up truck variant (said to be revealed in its country by the second half of the year) from the Japanese automaker is expected to be displayed at the Toyota Gazoo Racing Garage fan activation site from March 30 up to April 2.
While further details about the Dakar-inspired Hilux GR Sport have yet to be released, Toyota’s arm in the aforementioned country shared some tasty treats about the vehicle.
The Toyota Hilux GR Sport’s 2.8-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine can deliver up to 221 horsepower and 550 Newton-meters of torque, making it the nameplate’s most powerful diesel version to date.
It also sports upgraded suspension with dedicated monotube shock absorbers, stiffer coil springs, improved steering response and wider tracks.
Outside, additional improvements include the new grille design, overfenders, rock rails, skid plate, recovery points, red brake calipers and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Enhancements inside the cabin consist of sports pedals, red seat belts and GR logos, among others.
Aside from the Toyota Hilux GR Sport, the Toyota Gazoo Racing Garage at the Australian Grand Prix will also display the new GR Corolla, GR86, and the GR Yaris AP4 that will be campaigned by the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia (TGRA) Rally Team in the upcoming 2023 Australian Rally Championship (ARC) season.
