Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has recently delivered 217 units of its reliable pick-up truck Hilux to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
According to the leading automotive distributor in the country, it has turned over 90 units of Hilux 4x4 G A/T personnel carrier, and an initial 127 of 411 units of Hilux 4x2 police patrol jeep last November 8. These were presented during the ceremonial blessing of units before being dispatched to different regions in the country.
The handover was held at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame four days before the retirement of Police General Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar. Joining him at the ceremonies was National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Vice Chairman Vitaliano Aguirre II.
The said units have been converted to meet the requirements of PNP and are guaranteed with the Toyota Sure Advantage of Quality, Durability, and Reliability.
“Designed and built to be dependable in tough situations, the country’s top-selling pickup, is sure to deliver high-quality performance to best assist our men and women in uniform in their mobility needs and in promoting safety, contributing to the overall goal of helping build the nation,” TMP shared.
The units were part of the 240 brand new vehicles that went were procured by the PNP Bids and Awards Committee chaired by PNP Director for Comptrollership, Police Major General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., from appropriations of the Capability Enhancement Program 2021 with a total contract price of P818,175,766.
In an earlier statement, PNP Acting Director for Logistics Ronaldo Olay said the of the total number of the units delivered, 10 utility trucks will be issued to the five Area Police Offices for North Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas, Eastern Mindanao and Western Mindanao; while the 13 shuttle buses will be distributed to the Police Regional Offices and PNP Academy.
The 90 4×4 troop carriers will be issued to Police Mobile Forces and Municipal Police Stations with rugged and mountainous terrain, while the 127 patrol vehicles will be distributed to Police Stations.
PNP Spokesperson Roderick Augustus Alba said the PNP is currently maintaining a fleet of 20,000 ground mobile assets representing 53 percent of the required 37,000 units to fully support police operations nationwide.
