Toyota seems to be beefing up its GR offerings in various markets worldwide.
In the Philippines, the Japanese automaker has recently launched the GR Sport version of the Vios (to augment the GR Yaris and GR Supra) while in other regions like Thailand, nameplates such as the Hilux are ones to get the GR treatment.
In classic Gazoo Racing fashion, the Thai-spec GR Hilux gets a redesigned radiator grille with a GR badge, new wheel arches, unique model-specific side decals, a sharkfin antenna, a redesigned sports bar, and 18-inch alloy wheels with red calipers.
Inside the dressed-up Hilux are similar GR accents including red stitching on the seats and the steering wheel. In the same way, both the steering wheel and the front seats get interior GR badges as well as a TFT color display instrument panel.
The multi-functional steering wheel also has paddle shifters as well as controls for audio and other driving amenities.
Under the hood, the GR-inspired Hilux will be powered by a 2.8-liter engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that produces 201hp and 500Nm of torque.
The Hilux GR Sports launched in the Thai market is offered in two variants: one is a low-riding two-wheel-drive model while the other is a taller four-wheel-drive. The former gets monotube shock absorbers while the other receives newly tuned suspensions.
In terms of safety, the two-wheel-drive model gets an anti-lock braking system with electric brakeforce distribution, and a third brake light. Adding to what the two-wheel-drive model has to offer, the four-wheel-drive variant offers rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, a panoramic view monitor, pre-collision system, lane departure alert, dynamic radar cruise control, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, downhill speed control, brake assist, and trailer sway control.
The Hilux GR Sports two-wheel-drive is priced at TBH889,000 while the Hilux GR Sports two-wheel-drive gets a sticker price of TBH1,299,000.
